BASIC DESCRIPTION RIVER LEAGUE provides opportunities for teams to play friendlies. TEN Fall and TEN Spring League Play Days (LPD) are open to any teams at any level (recreational, developmental, all-star/D2, select/D1) from any club with any affiliation.

2014–2015

RIVER LEAGUE provides a TeamCentric platform for competitive opportunities between soccer teams of all ages and levels (U7–U19). “TeamCentric” refers to TEAMS deciding when and where they want to play, NOT the league. The league facilitates games for teams who want games on a particular day. RIVER LEAGUE is an independent, unaffilitated, unrestricted league. Both USCS and USYS teams are welcome to participate. Supplemental insurance for USYS teams is provided by the league. Team coaches, managers, club presidents, commissioners, or board members—make plans now to play at an upcoming LPD.

PLAYING FORMATS

Though there are standard playing formats (e.g., 4v4 at U7/U8, 6v6 at U9/U10, 8v8 at U11/U12) established by US Soccer, there is considerable variation among statelevel affiliates. Variations by states are compounded by variations at the club level where clubs/ teams/events are being creative with playing formats.

League play formats are determined by participating teams and differences are solved by mutual agreement between teams. No team will be forced to play a format they don’t want to play. To facilitate this, during the response to the Call process, teams will be asked what format they prefer and whenever possible they will be matched against other teams preferring that same format.

RIVER LEAGUE remains neutral on specific formats when they vary and seeks to facilitate games between teams while allowing the teams to decide their preferred playing format.

BASIC PROCEDURE FOR LEAGUE PLAY DAYS 1. RIVER LEAGUE does NOT pre-publish a schedule requiring teams to play in locations and on dates inconvenient to them. Each team participating in the league has COMPLETE control over which dates they play. There are no expectations of any level of participation for any team—you may attend one LPD or you may attend them all! 2. Two weeks before a LPD, a Call for Team Registration will be issued via email by the League Commissioner. 3. To play in the LPD referenced in the Call, reply to the email reserving a spot on the schedule. A reply email will be sent by the League Commissioner confirming your reservation. If a team does NOT wish to play on the referenced LPD, DO NOT REPLY.

4. Registration for each LPD will end on the Saturday 7 days before the LPD. 5. A DRAFT schedule of play for the LPD will be distributed via email Saturday evening 7 days before the LPD. 6. Feedback regarding scheduling conflicts will be received from league participants by the League Commissioner via email through Monday evening 5 days before the LPD. 7. A FINAL schedule of play for the LPD will be distributed via email no later than Wednesday 3 days before the LPD. 8. Teams will check in with the League Commissioner to pay their fees before each LPD. All fees, both team and referee, must be paid in full before a team can play at an LPD.

GAME CANCELLATION

When a team cancels after making an LPD reservation, this is a significant offense that has serious repercussions for scheduling and referee assigning. WE ASK IN THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS THAT TEAMS NOT CANCEL AFTER MAKING RESERVATIONS.

When teams that are affiliated with US Youth Soccer (including state associations such as Alabama Soccer Association, Florida Soccer Association, Louisiana Soccer Association, Mississippi Soccer Association) play in events such as tournaments or leagues with teams that are NOT affiliated with USYS, their USYS insurance is rendered null and void. Thus, it is necessary for all league participants to contribute to a supplemental insurance policy that covers them while participating in the RIVER LEAGUE, which is open to all teams, regardless of affiliation.
