Road Closure Flyer 2014 FINAL crop marks - the Midrand Forum

Dear Resident of Johannesburg,
The Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge is in it's 18th year and is set to attract 35 000 cyclists to the streets on Sunday 16th November. To ensure the safety of both the cyclists as well as the residents, the City Of Joburg, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, the Johannesburg Roads Agency and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport will implement TOTAL ROAD CLOSURE along the route. The Cycle Challenge has moved home from Waterfall Country Estate, Sunninghill to Riversands Commerial Park off the R511, Fourways and therefore there has been a change to the route which will affect roads in the Fourways area. The Cycle Challenge route stays essentially the same, But the new Start at Riversands Commercial Park onto the Mnandi Road means that the route has pivoted backwards, and rejoins the old route on Summit Rd (Near Georges Cafe). This means that roads that previously were closed most of the day will open up earlier and traffic will be free to flow. Conversely the road closure times in the middle to latter part of the route will stay closed longer than in previous years. The tail end of the route has a big change, instead of using the N14 highway, the route turns right off Malibongwe Drive at the R114 (Lion Park Intersection) and then turns right onto Cedar Rd at Esstee Timbers and before reaching the Dainfern Shopping Centre, turns left into the Steyn City Gate House. It then continues through Steyn City (private road) to the finish on Riversands Boulevard – Riversands Commercial Park. We understand the impact of the road closures and thank you for giving up your streets for the day–your co-operation helps to make a difference to many people, in addition to the cyclists. All participants in the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge have been encouraged to “Ride For A Purpose” and entrants are heeding this call. There are already over 200 registered charities entered and committed to raising funds and/or awareness for their causes and this year we hope to raisein excess of R15 million, bettering the R12.5million in 2013 Please familiarise yourself with the REVISED route map on the reverse side of this flyer and then utilise the TomTom interactive map at www.cyclechallenge.co.za to assist residents and motorists to navigate the city avoiding the road closures. The dedicated Call Centre - 0862 947 947, will be operational, there to assist with all route and road closure queries. Watch out for the bright yellow traffic advisories that will be erected from the 6th November 2014 on all directly affected roads. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
