AbbREViAtioNS adjustable-ring method = Wrap yarn into a ring, ensuring that the tail falls behind the working yarn. Grip ring and tail firmly between middle finger and thumb. Insert hook through center of ring, yarn over (with working yarn) and draw up a loop. Work stitches of first round in the ring. After the first round of stitches is worked, pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring Ch(s) = Chain(s) Hdc = Half double crochet Sc = Single crochet Sl st = Slip stitch (sl st) Cl: Cluster—Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; [yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] 3 times; yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook. Size 3.5 mm (U.S. E-4) crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch marker. Embroidery needle. Small amounts of black embroidery floss (for mouth and eyelashes). Small amount of red embroidery floss (for zig-zag on screen). Small piece of red craft felt (for heart and eyes). Small piece of black craft felt (for screen). Small piece of pink craft felt (for cheeks). Polyester fiberfill. 2 black safety eyes—5 mm diameter. Craft glue. Yarn needle.

HEAD Beginning at top of head, with A, make an adjustable ring. Round 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 6 sc in ring. Place marker for beginning of round. Move marker up as work progresses. HEAD ASSEmbLY Cut small circles from red felt for eyes. Cut a tiny slit in the middle of each circle and insert post of safety eye. Following package directions, insert safety eyes between Rounds 10 and 11, spaced about 6 stitches apart. Sew bottom of head to the head piece, stuffing firmly as you sew. boDY Beginning at top of body, with A, make an adjustable ring. Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc in ring.  Place marker for beginning of round. Move marker up as work progresses. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc. Round 3: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 6 times—18 sc. Round 4: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc] 6 times—24 sc. Round 5: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc] 6 times—30 sc. Round 6: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc] 6 times—36 sc. Round 7: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around. Rounds 8–19: Sc in each sc around. Sew head to top of neck, adding a small amount of stuffing inside neck. ARmS (make 2) Beginning at hand, with C, make an adjustable ring. Round 1: Ch 1, work 5 sc in ring. Place marker for beginning of round. Move marker up as work progresses. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around—10 sc. Rounds 3 and 4: Sc in each sc around. Round 5: Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, Cl in next sc (for thumb), sc in next sc, sc2tog—8 sc. Rounds 6 and 7: Sc in each st around; change to B in last sc of Round 7. Sl st Round: Sl st in each st around. Do not work into these sl sts in next round. This eases the color transition. Round 8: Working in sts of Round 7, sc in each sc around. Rounds 9–13: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stuff arm. Sew arms to sides of body. LEgS (make 2) Beginning at top of Leg, with B, make an adjustable ring. Round 1: Ch 1, work 4 sc in ring. Place marker for beginning of round. Move marker up as work progresses. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around—8 sc.

Rounds 3–8: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around; change to C in last sc of Round 8. Sl st Round: Sl st in each st around. Do not work into these sl sts in next round. This eases the color transition. Round 9: Working in sts of Round 8, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 4 times—12 sc. Round 10: Sc in next 4 sc, 2 hdc in next sc, hdc in next 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc—14 sts. Round 11: Sc in each st around. Fasten off. SHoE SoLES (make 2) With C, make an adjustable ring. Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc in ring. Place marker for beginning of round. Move marker up as work progresses. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc. Round 3: 2 hdc in next 3 sc, sl st in next sc; leave remaining sts unworked. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff legs firmly. Sew soles to bottom of legs, matching hdc sts of Round 3 of soles with hdc sts of Round 10 of legs. Sew legs to bottom of body. SCREEN Cut a 1¾" [4.5 cm] square from black felt for the screen. Cut a small heart from red felt. Glue heart to right top corner of black felt. With red embroidery floss, embroider a straight st zig-zag onto the bottom of the screen. Screen border: With A, ch 36. With A or matching thread, sew border around the edge of the felt screen. Sew screen to front of body. ANtENNA With B, ch 8. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across—7 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew antenna to top of head. boW With C, ch 5. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—4 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, [sc2tog] 2 times, turn—2 sc. Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, turn—1 sc. Row 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in next sc, turn—2 sc. Row 5: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc, turn—4 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew bow to base of antenna at top of head. Weave in ends towards center of bow. EARS (make 2) With B, make an adjustable ring. Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc in ring. Place marker for beginning of round. Move marker up as work progresses. Round 2: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 3 times—9 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew ears to sides of head. FiNiSHiNg Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. With black embroidery floss, embroider straight stitch smile and eyelashes. Cut two small circles from pink felt and glue to face for cheeks.
