Roma Store Sale January 10, 2012 Roma sets record heavy feeder price at 260c/kg A total of 5361 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday. A large number of restocker buyers were in attendance with livestock producers buying cattle from as far away as Cloncurry in North-West Queensland. Competition between restockers and feedlots remained strong for the first sale of the year and cattle prices continued to be bullish. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 260c/kg and averaging 207c/kg, while steers in the 350-400kg range reached 256c/kg and averaged 220c/kg and steers in the 280-350kg range reached 262c/kg and averaged 236c/kg. Weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 266c/kg and averaged 246c/kg, while weaners under 220kg topped at 259c/kg and averaged 228c/kg. The Handley family, Andromeda Cattle Co, Eddington, Mungallala, sold Cross Bred steers to 266c and averaged 261c for 250kg to return $652/head. Alan Emery, Mt Beverley, Wallumbilla, sold Angus steers to 262c for 293kg to make $769. The Flower family, Garrabarra, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 260c for 410kg to return $1066, while the consignment averaged 239c for 376kg to make $901. The Anderson family, East Sunrise, Injune, sold Charbray steers to 254c for 335kg to return $853, while their heifers hit 208c and averaged 208c for 309kg to make $643. Lockerbie Farms, Bindi, Wallumbilla, sold Simmental steers to 250c for 308kg to return $771. They also sold Simmental heifers to 200c for 305kg to make $610. The Brennan family, For Far, Mitchell, sold Charbray steers to 250c for 269kg to return $672. They also sold Charbray heifers to 233c for 223kg to make $520. Shane Reiser, Tocal, Mitchell, sold Brahman-cross heifers to 233c for 238kg to return $556, and, also Shorthorn-cross heifers to 207c for 298kg to make $619. Wallockatoo Pastoral Co, Wandoan, sold Santa-cross heifers to 228c and averaged 222c for 288kg to return $640. Currawarra Pastoral Co, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross heifers to 216c for 263kg to make $569. Preston Partnership, Mungallala, sold Brahman heifers to 188c for 409kg to return $769. Cows over 500kg hit 183c and averaged 168c, while cows 400-500kg topped at 177c and averaged 153c. Cows in the 300-400kg range made 172c and averaged 143c. Cows and Calves sold to $1300/unit and averaged $1042. Bulls up to 400kg reached 234c to average 200.
