Ron Baker Senior Men’s Basketball Major: Business Finance 2nd Major: Communications Over Summer 2015, Ron Baker attended Team USA’s training camp in June and earned a spot on the 2015 Summer Pan Am Games roster. He is the first Wichita State University player to ever appear on a Pan Am Games men’s basketball roster as well as the first active Shocker in over three decades to represent the U.S. in international competition. Team USA received the bronze medal after an 87-82 comeback win over the Dominican Republic. Baker started all five tournament games and led the team in steals with 7. He averaged 24.2 minutes per game, the highest among the seven collegiate players on the roster. What was the most rewarding part of your experience with Team USA this summer? Beating Dominican Republic in the third place game and receiving the bronze medal was the most rewarding part!
What was the most challenging part of your experience with Team USA this summer? The most challenging part was trying out against some of the best college players in the U.S. and adjusting to FIBA basketball rules.
Who has been your favorite professor so far at WSU? My favorite professors so far at WSU include Peggy Ward, Frank Ojile, and Larry Spurgeon. All these professors helped me attain my finance degree last May.
What has been your favorite moment as a Shocker? Obviously has to be making the Final Four
Who is the biggest role model in your life? My biggest role model is actually two people, my mother and father. I’m very lucky to have been guided and raised the right way by them.
