WHEN it comes to roping it’s work, rest then play for cowboy Warwick Kime. Kime, 27, will take to the arena for the Beef City Rodeo at the Great Western on Saturday night, the venue’s second full rodeo for 2015. “It’s going to be a pretty good show. There are a lot of bull riders and ropers coming down for it,” Kime said. “I got third in the team roping the last time I competed in Rocky so hopefully I can go even better.” It’s Kime’s last hoorah as an unmarried man, tying the knot with childhood sweetheart Louise Charlton

I think the rodeo will be the least stressful part,” Kime laughed. “When picking the date for the wedding, we had to be careful not to clash with rodeos.” Kime started his career on the back of a bull, competing professionally across Canadian rodeo circuits. “It’s a living over there, you ride every day, not just on weekends,” he said. “I made enough money to keep me going for a while but I busted my knee,
tearing ligaments on both sides. That ended my bull riding career.” A red-hot start to this year’s rodeo season has placed Kime right on the toes of long-serving roper Shane Iker. He said Iker and son Jordan would be his biggest rivals this weekend. “I’ve been catching a few and am getting there slowly,” he said. “This is only my first full year roping so I have a lot of stiff competition in the Ikers and Warrick Hale.” Kime was hesitant to reveal his lasso technique but said securing a win was as simple as “having a good horse and getting the rope on their horns”. Action begins on Saturday at the Great Western arena from 5pm.
