Rockets vs. Blazers Friday April 1, 2016 Game Time – 7:05 pm Tonight’s Preview: April Fools! It is no joke though; it is game five of an opening round playoff series between the Kelowna Rockets and Kamloops Blazers. The series is tied at two wins apiece. The Blazers were a 5-1 winner in game four Wednesday night in Kamloops. Game six is tomorrow night at Sandman Centre with a possible game seven back at Prospera th Place on Monday. These two teams are meeting for the 6 time in the playoffs. They clashed in 1992, 1999, 2002, 2009, 2013 and now in 2016. In four of the five playoff meetings the series has lasted just four games. Only in 1999 did the series go six games with the Blazers prevailing four games to two. What we’ve learned so far: The Rockets are 0 for 17 on the power play in the series. The Blazers are 3 for 18…The Rockets have opened the scoring in three of the four games…The Rockets have held identical 3-1 leads after 40 minutes in two of the four games…The Rockets have had the lead to start the third period in three of the four games……Rockets regular season leading scorer Tyson Baillie has 0+2=2 in the first 4 games of this series. Blazers leading scorer Collin Shirley has 4+2=6 in the first four games…This is game 13 between these two teams. Ten of the 12 (regular season/playoffs) have been decided by a single goal. The most lopsided score was in game four when the Blazers won 5-1. Game Four Recap: Collin Shirley had two goals and an assist in the Blazers 5-1 win Wednesday night. The Blazers had period leads of 3-1 and 4-1. Calvin Thurkauf scored the lone goal for the Rockets, who were 0 for 2 on the power play. Michael Herringer surrendered four goals on 28 shots before being pulled to start the third period. Rookie Brodan Salmond made 10 saves in a relief appearance. Game Three Recap: Michael Herringer made 40 saves in the Rockets 1-0 win over the Blazers. Justin Kirkland scored the game winning goal less than two minutes into the second period. The Rockets were 0 for 5 on the power play while the Blazers were 0 for 4. Game Two Recap: The Kelowna Rockets built up a 3-1 third period lead only to allow four-third period goals in a 5-4 loss. Rourke Chartier, Tomas Soustal with two and Rodney Southam with a shorthanded goal scored in a losing cause. The Rockets were 0 for 5 on the power play and surrendered three power play goals. It marked the first time this season the Rockets lost in regulation time when leading after 40 minutes. Game One Recap: Lucas Johansen scored twice leading the Kelowna Rockets to a 3-2 win. Dillon Dube and Johansen scored goals 47 seconds apart in the second period to take a 3-0 lead. The Blazers would fight back when Gage Quinney scored to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes. With the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, Collin Shirley would find the back of the net to make it a one goal game. The Rockets were 0 for 3 on the power play while going 3 for 3 on the penalty kill. Michael Herringer made 19 saves while Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram made 33 stops. Number Crunching Tyson Baillie has 50 games of playoff experience, the most on the Rockets roster…Baillie has 23+32=55 in those 50 games…Cole Linaker is next with 48 playoff games under his belt…Tyler Mosienko is the franchise leader in playoff games played with 81 …. The Rockets reached the th 100 point mark for a fourth consecutive season and 6 time in franchise history. Rourke Chartier was the sportsmanlike player of the year for a third consecutive season. Foote was the scholastic player of the year. Justin Kirkland was the unsung hero. The humanitarian award went to Riley Stadel. Tyson Time? Tyson Baillie has not scored in the first four games of this playoff series. The 20 year-old’s longest scoring drought during the regular season was four games, which happened twice, before scoring th in the fifth game. Is it a sign of things to come? Baillie is playing in his 380 game with the Rockets organization (regular season/playoffs) this evening. Baillie’s last playoff goal was in game one of the WHL final last season against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Baillie is scoreless in seven playoff games dating back to last year.

Lucas Johansen led the way with two goals, including the game winner for the Rockets. Gage Quinney and Collin Shirley had the goals for the Blazers. Michael Herringer earned the win with 19 saves, while Connor Ingram stopped 33 shots. The Blazers were 0-for-3 on the power play, and the Rockets were 0-for-4. GAME 2: The Blazers scored two goals in the final 31 seconds to win 5-4 and tie the best-of-seven series at 1-1. The Rockets held a 3-1 lead going into the third period but goals from Garrett Pilon, Dawson Davidson, Collin Shirley and Ryan Rehill erased the deficit. Connor Ingram stopped 40 shots for the win. The Blazers finished 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Rockets were 0-for-6. GAME 3: Justin Kirkland scored the lone goal, and Michael Herringer stopped 40 shots as the Rockets won 1-0 to take a 2-1 series lead. Connor Ingram had another stellar outing with 36 saves for the Blazers. The game was played at Memorial Arena in Kamloops in front of a capacity crowd of 3400 fans. GAME 4: The Blazers scored three goals in the first period and cruised to a 5-1 win over the Rockets to tie the best-of-seven series 2-2. Connor Ingram stopped 37 shots. Collin Shirley, Matt Revel and Gage Quinney combined for eight points in the win. ROSTER BREAKDOWN: The Blazers roster currently sits at 24 players (3 goaltenders, 7 defensemen and 14 forwards). The roster includes 13 players selected in the WHL Bantam Draft, seven players via trade, three players from the free agent list, and one player selected from the CHL Import Draft. The roster breakdown by region includes 10 players from B.C., four from Alberta, five from Saskatchewan, two from Manitoba, one from USA, and two from Czech Republic. There are 17 WHL veterans on the roster and seven WHL rookies. BY THE NUMBERS: Matt Needham is the Blazers longest tenured player first suiting up for the hockey club during the 2010-11 season and played 318 regular season games which is 5th in franchise history. Ryan Rehill finished 12th all-time on the Blazers penalty minute list with 508 career minutes… Collin Shirley played his 250th career WHL game on January 29th vs. Vancouver… Connor Ingram is the 11th goaltender in franchise history to play 100 games with the Blazers. PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE: The Rockets have plenty of playoff pedigree with 14 playoffs left from last season’s WHL Championship. The Blazers rely on veteran 20-year-olds Matt Needham and Gage Quinney for experience. Needham has 30 playoff games under his belt and 20 points. Quinney has played 24 playoff games and has recorded 19 points. Ryan Rehill, Matt Revel, Nick Chyzowski and Collin Shirley are the only other players with playoff experience prior to this season. The Blazers have 13 players making their WHL playoff debut this series. KAMLOOPS BLAZERS PERSPECTIVE: The Kamloops Blazers got off to the worst start in franchise history, but rebounded with a respectable season going 38-25-5-4 to finish third place in the B.C. Division. The Blazers return to the playoffs after a two-year absence. Matt Needham (23-39--62) and Gage Quinney (29-28--57) are players the Blazers rely on up front. Both are 20-year-olds with a lot of playoff experience that can contribute at both ends of the ice. Deven Sideroff (19-40--59), Collin Shirley (37-42--79), and Matt Revel (23-30--53) all had solid seasons and important pieces. Shirley led the Blazers in scoring, while Sideroff finished at a point-per-game pace. The Blazers acquired 19-year-old import forward Jiri Smejkal (5-22--27) from Moose Jaw to add some depth. He often plays with 18-year-old. Nick Chyzowski (15-10--25) and 17-year-old Quinn Benjafield (11-15--26). Smejkal, Chyzowski and Benjafield are relied on for secondary scoring. Jake Kryski (12-27--39) is a top-6 forward and is a terrific complimentary player. Garrett Pion (15-32-47) may be the Blazers most versatile player. He can slot in almost any line and any position in the forward ranks. He also often plays the point on the power play. Players like Matt Campese (8-4--12) and Jermaine Loewen (8-7--15), Spencer Bast (4-8--12) and Erik Miller (1-4--5) will provide energy. On defense, Ryan Rehill (10-29—39) is the elder statesmen in his fourth and final season in the WHL. He has been a terrific leader of a young defensive group. Dallas Valentine (3-13--16) is a steady presence. The 19-year-old is relied on it a lot of defensive situations. Defenseman Cam Reagan (0-5--5) has slotted in regularly this season. Dawson Davidson (6-33--39) is impressive as a 17-year-old playing well at both ends of the ice. Ondrej Vala (4-17--21) is only 17, but plays like a veteran. Nolan Kneen (1-6--7) and Conner McDonald (1-2--3) are a pair

of 16-year-olds that have seen a lot of ice time in their first WHL seasons. In goal, Connor Ingram (34-15-5-4) leads the way after posting a 2.61 goals against average and a .922 save percentage this season. Dylan Ferguson (4-10-0-0) is the 17-year-old back-up, who posted a shutout in his last outing on March 19th in Prince George. KELOWNA ROCKETS PERSPECTIVE: The Rockets finished third overall in the WHL standings with a 48-20-4-0 record. The Rockets are the defending WHL Champions and return 14 players from that team. Up front Tyson Baillie is the Rockets MVP and led the team with 95 points. In 50 career playoff games, he has 55 career points. There is plenty of firepower up front with players like Rourke Chartier, Justin Kirkland, and Dillon Dube. All three players are at a point-per-game pace and will be counted on for scoring goals and for their experience. Cole Linakar is an experienced 20-year-old who plays hard at both ends of the ice. Tomas Soustal and Calvin Thurkauf are a pair of big-bodied import players that will add some secondary scoring as complimentary players. The Rockets have some gritty veteran 19-year-old players in Rodney Southam and Riley Stadel. Kole Lind has been a terrific rookie forward with 41 points. Other young forwards to watch for are Tanner Wishnowski, Tate Coughlin, Jordan Borstmayer and Conner Bruggen-Cate. On the backend, the Rockets have three veterans from last year’s playoff run. Lucas Johansen is the most dynamic of the bunch. He tallied 49 points this season. Joe Gatenby and Devante Stephens are both reliable two-way defenders. Cal Foote is a terrific first year player. At only 17, he is relied on to play some significant minutes. Gordie Ballhorn is another solid player, but he has missed time recently due to injury. Braydyn Chizen and Johnathan Smart are both first year players. In goal, the Rockets have 19-year-old Michael Herringer as their starter, backed up by 17-year-old Brodan Salmond. Herringer has played a bulk of the games since Christmas and was on the Rockets championship team last season. NHL DRAFT: Ryan Rehill (New Jersey, 5th round, 131st overall in 2014), Deven Sideroff (Anaheim, 3rd round, 84th overall in 2015). Rockets vs. Blazers Friday April 1, 2016 Game Time – 7:05 pm Tonight’s Preview: April Fools! It is no joke though; it is game five of an opening round playoff series between the Kelowna Rockets and Kamloops Blazers. The series is tied at two wins apiece. The Blazers were a 5-1 winner in game four Wednesday night in Kamloops. Game six is tomorrow night at Sandman Centre with a possible game seven back at Prospera th Place on Monday. These two teams are meeting for the 6 time in the playoffs. They clashed in 1992, 1999, 2002, 2009, 2013 and now in 2016. In four of the five playoff meetings the series has lasted just four games. Only in 1999 did the series go six games with the Blazers prevailing four games to two. What we’ve learned so far: The Rockets are 0 for 17 on the power play in the series. The Blazers are 3 for 18…The Rockets have opened the scoring in three of the four games…The Rockets have held identical 3-1 leads after 40 minutes in two of the four games…The Rockets have had the lead to start the third period in three of the four games……Rockets regular season leading scorer Tyson Baillie has 0+2=2 in the first 4 games of this series. Dillon Dube and Johansen scored goals 47 seconds apart in the second period to take a 3-0 lead. The Blazers would fight back when Gage Quinney scored to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes. With the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, Collin Shirley would find the back of the net to make it a one goal game. The Rockets were 0 for 3 on the power play while going 3 for 3 on the penalty kill. Michael Herringer made 19 saves while Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram made 33 stops. The 20 year-old’s longest scoring drought during the regular season was four games, which happened twice, before scoring th in the fifth game. Is it a sign of things to come? Baillie is playing in his 380 game with the Rockets organization (regular season/playoffs) this evening. Baillie’s last playoff goal was in game one of the WHL final last season against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Baillie is scoreless in seven playoff games dating back to last year.

The Blazers beat the Tacoma Rockets 4-0 in 1991-92 and the Kelowna Rockets 4-2 in 1999 in best-of-seven series’. The Rockets won 4-0 in 200102 and 2008-09 in best-of-seven series’. Michael Herringer earned the win with 19 saves, while Connor Ingram stopped 33 shots. The Blazers were 0-for-3 on the power play, and the Rockets were 0-for-4. GAME 2: The Blazers scored two goals in the final 31 seconds to win 5-4 and tie the best-of-seven series at 1-1. The Rockets held a 3-1 lead going into the third period but goals from Garrett Pilon, Dawson Davidson, Collin Shirley and Ryan Rehill erased the deficit. Connor Ingram stopped 40 shots for the win. The Blazers finished 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Rockets were 0-for-6. GAME 3: Justin Kirkland scored the lone goal, and Michael Herringer stopped 40 shots as the Rockets won 1-0 to take a 2-1 series lead. Connor Ingram had another stellar outing with 36 saves for the Blazers. The game was played at Memorial Arena in Kamloops in front of a capacity crowd of 3400 fans. GAME 4: The Blazers scored three goals in the first period and cruised to a 5-1 win over the Rockets to tie the best-of-seven series 2-2. Connor Ingram stopped 37 shots. Collin Shirley, Matt Revel and Gage Quinney combined for eight points in the win. ROSTER BREAKDOWN: The Blazers roster currently sits at 24 players (3 goaltenders, 7 defensemen and 14 forwards). The roster includes 13 players selected in the WHL Bantam Draft, seven players via trade, three players from the free agent list, and one player selected from the CHL Import Draft. The roster breakdown by region includes 10 players from B.C., four from Alberta, five from Saskatchewan, two from Manitoba, one from USA, and two from Czech Republic. There are 17 WHL veterans on the roster and seven WHL rookies. BY THE NUMBERS: Matt Needham is the Blazers longest tenured player first suiting up for the hockey club during the 2010-11 season and played 318 regular season games which is 5th in franchise history. Ryan Rehill finished 12th all-time on the Blazers penalty minute list with 508 career minutes… Collin Shirley played his 250th career WHL game on January 29th vs. Vancouver… Connor Ingram is the 11th goaltender in franchise history to play 100 games with the Blazers. PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE: The Rockets have plenty of playoff pedigree with 14 playoffs left from last season’s WHL Championship. The Blazers rely on veteran 20-year-olds Matt Needham and Gage Quinney for experience. Needham has 30 playoff games under his belt and 20 points. Quinney has played 24 playoff games and has recorded 19 points. Ryan Rehill, Matt Revel, Nick Chyzowski and Collin Shirley are the only other players with playoff experience prior to this season. The Blazers have 13 players making their WHL playoff debut this series. KAMLOOPS BLAZERS PERSPECTIVE: The Kamloops Blazers got off to the worst start in franchise history, but rebounded with a respectable season going 38-25-5-4 to finish third place in the B.C. Division. The Blazers return to the playoffs after a two-year absence. Matt Needham (23-39--62) and Gage Quinney (29-28--57) are players the Blazers rely on up front. Both are 20-year-olds with a lot of playoff experience that can contribute at both ends of the ice. Deven Sideroff (19-40--59), Collin Shirley (37-42--79), and Matt Revel (23-30--53) all had solid seasons and important pieces. Shirley led the Blazers in scoring, while Sideroff finished at a point-per-game pace. The Blazers acquired 19-year-old import forward Jiri Smejkal (5-22--27) from Moose Jaw to add some depth. He often plays with 18-year-old. Nick Chyzowski (15-10--25) and 17-year-old Quinn Benjafield (11-15--26). Smejkal, Chyzowski and Benjafield are relied on for secondary scoring. Jake Kryski (12-27--39) is a top-6 forward and is a terrific complimentary player. Garrett Pion (15-32-47) may be the Blazers most versatile player. He can slot in almost any line and any position in the forward ranks. He also often plays the point on the power play. Players like Matt Campese (8-4--12) and Jermaine Loewen (8-7--15), Spencer Bast (4-8--12) and Erik Miller (1-4--5) will provide energy. On defense, Ryan Rehill (10-29—39) is the elder statesmen in his fourth and final season in the WHL. He has been a terrific leader of a young defensive group. Dallas Valentine (3-13--16) is a steady presence. The 19-year-old is relied on it a lot of defensive situations. Defenseman Cam Reagan (0-5--5) has slotted in regularly this season. Dawson Davidson (6-33--39) is impressive as a 17-year-old playing well at both ends of the ice. Ondrej Vala (4-17--21) is only 17, but plays like a veteran. Nolan Kneen (1-6--7) and Conner McDonald (1-2--3) are a pair

of 16-year-olds that have seen a lot of ice time in their first WHL seasons. In goal, Connor Ingram (34-15-5-4) leads the way after posting a 2.61 goals against average and a .922 save percentage this season. Dylan Ferguson (4-10-0-0) is the 17-year-old back-up, who posted a shutout in his last outing on March 19th in Prince George. KELOWNA ROCKETS PERSPECTIVE: The Rockets finished third overall in the WHL standings with a 48-20-4-0 record. The Rockets are the defending WHL Champions and return 14 players from that team. Up front Tyson Baillie is the Rockets MVP and led the team with 95 points. In 50 career playoff games, he has 55 career points. There is plenty of firepower up front with players like Rourke Chartier, Justin Kirkland, and Dillon Dube. All three players are at a point-per-game pace and will be counted on for scoring goals and for their experience. Cole Linakar is an experienced 20-year-old who plays hard at both ends of the ice. Tomas Soustal and Calvin Thurkauf are a pair of big-bodied import players that will add some secondary scoring as complimentary players. The Rockets have some gritty veteran 19-year-old players in Rodney Southam and Riley Stadel. Kole Lind has been a terrific rookie forward with 41 points. Other young forwards to watch for are Tanner Wishnowski, Tate Coughlin, Jordan Borstmayer and Conner Bruggen-Cate. On the backend, the Rockets have three veterans from last year’s playoff run. Lucas Johansen is the most dynamic of the bunch. He tallied 49 points this season. Joe Gatenby and Devante Stephens are both reliable two-way defenders. Cal Foote is a terrific first year player. At only 17, he is relied on to play some significant minutes. Gordie Ballhorn is another solid player, but he has missed time recently due to injury. Braydyn Chizen and Johnathan Smart are both first year players. In goal, the Rockets have 19-year-old Michael Herringer as their starter, backed up by 17-year-old Brodan Salmond. Herringer has played a bulk of the games since Christmas and was on the Rockets championship team last season.
