Follow a Route Christopher Columbus was an explorer. He traveled to new places to learn about them. In 1492 Columbus sailed to North America from Spain. He was looking for a new route to the continent of Asia. A route is a way to get from one place to another. This map shows the route that Columbus took from Spain. Look at the map key on this map.
