Rowanmoor Group plc calls on Directors to rethink retirement planning In the 40th anniversary year of the launch of the SSAS, Rowanmoor Group plc, the UK’s largest independent SSAS provider and a bespoke SIPP and Family Pension Trust (Family SIPP) operator, is calling on directors to widen their horizons when choosing retirement planning vehicles in light of new research into directors’ pension provision. Recent research from the Institute of Directors1 (IoD) revealed that company directors are increasingly seeing the value of saving in a pension (82 per cent in 2013 compared to 74 per cent in 2011). The research also stated that 54 per cent of directors are using personal pension arrangements, including SIPPs, as the primary vehicle for their retirement planning. However, Rowanmoor Group plc has recognised that many company directors of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are underestimating the value of SSAS, which are occupational schemes specifically designed for their benefit. Small self-administered schemes, which were not considered in the IoD’s research, are designed to help SME owner-managers achieve business economic success, whilst they save for retirement. With the IoD finding that directors of different sized organisations have dramatically varying opinions regarding how much of a contribution an occupational or personal pension will make to their overall income in retirement, directors of SMEs should be aware that SSAS products can provide them with a wide choice of scheme investments and retirement options. SSAS also carry a loanback facility that enables company directors to take direct control of the business’s line of credit, consequently reducing their reliance on banks. As part of the 40th anniversary of the launch of the SSAS, Rowanmoor Group plc will be hosting a series of educational workshops for financial advisers who wish to develop their understanding of the SSAS market.
