In May, th he NASDA Fou undation awaarded five min ni‐grants of $$12,000 each (totaling $60 0,000) through the 2018 Invaasive Pest Graant Program tto state deparrtments of aggriculture in D Delaware, Maaryland, New Jersey, Ne ew York and P Pennsylvania to combat th he Spotted Laanternfly. The grantt proposals created outreach and educaation projectss to stop the sspread of thee Spotted Lanternflyy, a pest threaatening more e than $18 billion in agricu ltural crops. D Departmentss of agriculturre submitted d proposal ide eas targeting growers, com mmunity mem mbers, govern nment agencies, outdoor groups an nd the craft be everage secto or. Funds will be distributeed at the end of May. The NASD DA Foundation n submitted aa pre‐proposaal for $1.2 miillion to the KKauffman Foundation for aa three‐yeaar research prroject that tessts marketingg interventionns for farmerss in the Chesaapeake Bay reegion. The Kaufffman Foundattion is based in Kansas Cityy, Missouri annd is among tthe largest prrivate foundations in the Uniited States. The NASDA Fo oundation parrtnered on th e proposal w with state departments of agriculturre in Maryland d, Virginia and Pennsylvan nia to expand their “buy lo ocal” labels to o include wateer quality en nhancement m messages. The project will test whether or not custo omers will pay more for agriculturral products w with the enhanced label. We condu ucted a Congrressional farm m tour in centtral Florida in January 2018 for nine Congressional staff members in partnership with the Faarm Foundatiion. We evaluuated the tou ur and found tthat participaants received ttwo major be enefits. ers increased ttheir agricult ural knowled dge. 1. Congressional staff membe 2. We are interested in updating the fformat of the Congressionaal farm tours to increase ttheir effectiveeness. We w will focus eacch tour on on ne agriculturaal issue (i.e., llabor, hemp/cannabis, invvasive pests) tto increase th he depth of informatio on we can provide to participants.
