_______________________ John Lane, Headteacher
her ’s Headteac Message from the Headteacher, Mr Lane Corner! I know all those who lost their lives in Paris last week, and their families, were in your thoughts and prayers over the past week. The children and staff prayed for the victims and their families at assembly earlier this week. In addition our older pupils in Years 5 and 6 observed a minutes’ silence on Monday. May those who lost their lives rest in peace. The children really enjoyed Friendship Week this week and, while this was an opportunity to reinforce many things they already know about being a good friend, it was also an opportunity to develop new skills. I'm sure you will have also noticed our new friendship corner in the front playground which the children are very excited about. Next week is e-Safety week and raising awareness of this amongst pupils and parents/carers is crucial. Children are growing up in a rapidly changing world and understanding safety on the internet and with technology is a vital life skill. We look forward to seeing some of you at the information session for parents/carers next week. We had some great results at the Islington swimming finals last Friday. Our team brought home three medals - one gold, one silver and one bronze. Further details are included in the newsletter so please say well done Baggie, Dennis and Taylor if you see them. Thank you to our PE leader, Miss Patterson, for organising and for other members of staff who accompanied the children. To help with the learning in their current topics our Year 2 pupils enjoyed a trip to the Science museum earlier this week and our Reception classes went to the Rio cinema. Both had a great time. We are very fortunate to live in a place like London where lots of activities like this are on our doorstep; they really help to enrich our curriculum. Thank you too to the number of parents/ carers who volunteer and help out on school trips; without your support they would be extremely difficult to organise. The Leadership Team carried out further pupils interviews with two children from each class about learning and were very impressed with the responses we received. We learnt a lot about what it feels like to be a learner at Sacred Heart. On my travels around the school this week I have heard some more Christmas singing from classrooms so by the time I write next week I'm pretty sure practices and rehearsals will be in full swing. Have a good weekend.
Swimming Gala Last Friday some of our children took part in the swimming gala finals at Ironmonger Row Baths. They were hugely successful and won 3 medals! Congratulations to: Dennis who won Gold Baggie who won Silver Taylor S who won Bronze Well done to all of the children who represented our school and thank you to the parents and staff who supported them.

Breakfast Club We at Sacred Heart are part of the Kellogg's Breakfast Club Network, they payed a visit to us recently. Here is what they thought… ‘Last month we were excited to head to north London to Sacred Heart Primary School and pay a visit to its popular Breakfast Club. The club is part of Kellogg’s network of hundreds of schools across the UK which run morning sessions for children to make sure they kick off their day with the best possible start. Kellogg’s started its Breakfast Club programme after discovering that tens of thousands of UK children were starting their day hungry and that this was impacting everything from attendance to attainment. The Sacred Heart Breakfast Club has been running for six years and is a thriving club with around 40 children a day attending. Our hour with the club was action-packed; from becoming a pro at Minions Top Trumps, to royally failing at Hide and Seek. We returned to the office with a spring in our step wishing we had a breakfast club to go to each morning! It was fantastic to see how Kellogg's support helps make these clubs fun and happy places for the children to start their day, as well as getting them ready to tackle the school day ahead. We’re looking forward to visiting more clubs in the future… See more at: www.hopscotchconsulting.co.uk/blog/display/ kelloggs-breakfast-clubs#sthash.uBtI2zp9.dpuf’
