BLESSING OF ANIMALS

COMMUNION SERVICE TAKEN TO JEAN AND JOHN MCCALMAN Deacon Carol, Jan Standing, and Dona Rouse recently went to Fox Hollow to hold a brief service, delivering Holy Communion to our friends, John and Jean McCalman. These ladies often visit shutins for the purpose of delivering Holy Communion. If you need such a service, or know someone who does, please let Deacon Carol know.

We will celebrate the Blessing of Animals on Sunday, October 5, 11:30 a.m., following the worship service. This annual observance of thanksgiving for all creation usually coincides as near as possible with the church's feast of Saint Francis of Assisi Francis (1181-1226). Francis, at the age of twenty- five, renounced all material values and devoted himself to the relief of the poor. He was a man of tremendous spiritual insight and power whose consuming love for Jesus and for all creation found expression in all that he did or said. He is known as the patron saint of animals. He called animals "his brothers and sisters" and wrote a

magnificent poem known as "The Canticle of the Sun" in which brother sun and sister moon figure prominently. You are encouraged to bring your pets of any size or age to the church parking lot and participate in this annual celebration of life. If it is not possible to bring your animal to the service, a picture, or just a name can be presented.

MERRY MARKET Can it be time again for the Merry Market?!!! The preparation time has begun for our fall bazaar. The date is November 22. (Traditionally held the Saturday before Thanksgiving.) We will need crafters, artists, and bakers to create holiday items to sell. We urge full parish participation in order to make the event successful. As always, tables will be rented to vendors. Carol Burgess already has a number of vendors signed up to set up their tables on bazaar day. Vendors pay $15.00 per table.

Every family has one weird relative. If you don’t know who it is, then it’s probably you. Copied from the internet HELEN COLVIN October 8, 1930 – September 15, 2014 LITTLE CHILD MIND From Bonnie Johnson’s blog – www.kenosisfills There are times when I actually think I might know a lot of stuff, but just when I start to feel really certain, something happens and I get dropped right back onto the preschool chair. That’s ok, though, because it means there is a lot yet to discover out in the big world. Adventure awaits! And I kind of like starting the day knowing that I don’t really know – then everyone’s my teacher and each moment has a lesson. Then Mystery and Magic and Miracles weave in and around the ordinary, and my soul sees the Sacred in all the tiny bits of life that make a Life.
