The win marked a number of milestones, including an impressive beginning to Eddie Soto’s tenure as head coach of the USF program. TAMING THE BADGERS The Dons got a first half goal from newcomer Davi Ramos and another goal from Danny Kirkland to take a 2-0 lead against No. 21 Wisconsin. The Badgers scored in the 81st minute but that is as close as they would get. It was the first time since 2007 the Dons had defeated a ranked opponent (2-1 vs. No. 11 California) and is the first time since 2008 they had beaten a Big Ten opponent.

NOTES

The University of San Francisco has one of the more storied programs in all of college soccer. The program holds six national championships, has been to nine College Cups, made 31 NCAA Tournament appearances, won 36 conference championships and has had 48 All-Americans.

SUMMER WITH MLS SQUADS Miguel Aguilar was among a group of Dons who participated with various MLS developmental teams this summer. Aguilar spent the summer with the Portland Timbers developmental academy and played in eight games, recording a goal and an assist. Danny Kirkland and Joshua Smith were with the San Jose Earthquakes academy and gained valuable experience to bring back to the Dons this season.

They hold a total of four NCAA championships, which are the fourth most in history behind only Saint Louis, Indiana, and Virginia.

AGUILAR NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-WCC TEAM Senior Miguel Aguilar was named to the Preseason All-WCC Team by the 10 conference coaches last week. He scored three goals last season and has been named to the All-WCC Second Team twice. As a team, the Dons were picked to finish seventh in the conference after finishing in fifth last season.

In the last decade, the Dons have won the West Coast Conference championship three times, participated in four NCAA Tournaments and have been ranked in the Top 25 in four of those seasons. But the team is only as successful as its individual parts. During that same time period, the Dons have had three WCC Players of the Year, a WCC Goalkeeper of the Year, and 13 All-WCC first teamers. The Dons have had two of the top 15 winningest coaches in NCAA history in NSCAA Hall of Famers Gus Donoghue (1946-60, .871 win percentage, first all-time) and Stephen Negoesco (1962-2000, .737, 15th all-time). Negoesco’s 540 career victories are second in NCAA history.

ABOUT CAL STATE FULLERTON The Titans are usually one of the better teams in the Big West Conference but have been slated to finish last in the South Division. This does not mean it is a team to be taken lightly. The Titans lost to Illinois-Chicago this past Friday 3-2 in overtime and got a team goal and another from Amara Soumah. The Titans are also in their first season with new head coach George Kuntz.
