The Santa Clara County Fairgrounds have been a community asset since 1941 when the first County Fair was held. The redevelopment of the fairgrounds is a proposal for fostering community, preserving heritage and also reflecting the evolving priorities that will determine the future of this valuable public asset. SWA’s master plan emphasizes three critical components to the site design: developing various scales of open spaces to benefit both residents and regional community; bringing the cultural and historical richness of the region to the site; and providing a long term strategy for sustainability. Storm water management is another critical component of the landscape strategy. Ribbons of native plant species will work with a well integrated biofiltration network. The landscape plan will work to absorb, and clean site water converting what is an existing asphalt field with conventional storm water collection to a positive environmental approach.
