Saskatoon Blades @ Moose Jaw Warriors - December 12th, 2012 The Saskatoon Blades (16-14-0-1) look for their 4th straight win as they play their 2nd game in as many nights, traveling to take on the Moose Jaw Warriors (12-14-3-4) tonight. The Blades are coming off a 7-5 win in Brandon last night, while these teams enter the game with only two points separating them in the standings. Blades Last Game The Saskatoon Blades extended their winning streak to three games last night with a wild 7-5 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Blades once again got a big performance from Matej Stransky as he posted 3 points to pace the Blades to victory, all while taking over the team lead in scoring. In the end Saskatoon got goals from Darren Dietz, Brenden Walker, Nathan Burns, Ryan Graham, Stransky and Logan Harland (2) in the victory. Brandon's offence was provide by Ryan Pulock, Jayce Hawryluk, Nick Buonassisi and Richard Nejezchleb (2). Saskatoon threw 53 shots on Corbin Boes' goal, while Alex Moodie picked up his 1st win of the season by stopping 35 shots. On special teams the Blades were 2 for 5 on the PP and 4 for 6 on the PK. Previous Meetings Tonight's game marks the first meeting of the season between the Blades and Warriors. The teams will meet 8 times overall this season with the season series breaking down as follows: - December 12th - Blades @ Warriors - January 18th - Warriors @ Blades - January 27th - Warriors @ Blades - February 5th - Warriors @ Blades - February 15th - Blades @ Warriors - February 20th - Warriors @ Blades - February 23rd - Blades @ Warriors - March 3rd - Blades @ Warriors Road Warriors The Saskatoon Blades continue to climb up the standings, with a big reason being their play away from the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon. The Blades have played 20 of their 32 games on the road this season, posting a record of 12-7-0-1 in those games. Their .625 winning percentage on the road ranks them 3rd overall in the WHL's Eastern Conference, while their 70 road goals lead the Conference. In their last 10 road games, the Blades have posted a record of 6-3-0-1. At home, Saskatoon has a record of 4-7-0-0, while being outscored 34-45. Czech This Out Saskatoon Blades forward Matej Stransky continues to stay white-hot. The big winger from the Czech Republic has put up 11 points in his last 4 games, while posting 3-straight multi-point games. With another three point game last night, Stransky has taken over the team lead in scoring with 38 points in 31 games. That total leaves him 2 ahead of Josh Nicholls, who still leads the team in goals with 23. The Dallas Stars prospect has continued his success from November, as he was named as the team's Heinrichs Jewelers Player Of The Month after leading the team in scoring with 15 points in 11 games.
Makarov Goes Home For WJHC The Saskatoon Blades kicked off life with their starting goalie with a victory last night in Brandon. Alex Moodie picked up his first win of the season as Andrey Makarov left Saskatoon early Monday morning as he headed home to Russia for the World Junior Hockey Championships. Makarov left Saskatoon for his second straight WJHC during his hottest stretch of the season. He had posted back-to-back shutouts for the Blades before leaving as his goals against average dropped to 2.84 and his save percentage climbed to .908. Pufahl Putting Up Career Year The Saskatoon Blades continue to get production from defenceman Matt Pufahl. The Saskatoon-born blueliner is having a career year this season, posting 2 goals and 15 points in only 28 games. Pufahl has already surpassed his career highs in goals and points this season as in 2011-12 he had posted 1 goal and 11 points while splitting time between the Red Deer Rebels and Blades. Pufahl was injured late last season but has seemingly picked up where he left off pre-injury, as he's been a fixture on the Blades top powerplay unit this year.
