ARISE: The Columbarium Vigil Saturday, April 15, 7:00 PM
This year, the Great Easter Vigil will be celebrated in the beau fully expanded Columbarium. In an act of death‐defiance, early Chris ans celebrated Eucharist in the catacombs of Rome, enac ng their deep convic on that Christ’s resurrec on had forever broken the power of death.
This year the bonfire will be lit in the midst of the Columbarium. Every worshiper receives a candle and the light is passed un l we stand in the glow of the “light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” (John 1:5). Join the choir in li ing up the first great Alleluia in a service that’s great for kids and families. An Easter party follows right inside those beau ful stone walls, featuring May Wine and Easter treats.
Dress for the outdoors and—bring a bell or noise‐maker!
Good Friday Cross Walk—in Solidarity with Persecuted and Refugee Christians around the World
The Darien Clergy Associa on is dedica ng this year's Good Friday Cross Walk through town in solidarity with persecuted and refugee Chris ans all around the world today. Chris ans in Iraq and Syria have been prominent in the news certainly. But Chris ans in places like Indonesia, the Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and N. Korea are perennially at risk. Because Chris anity remains our majoritarian faith in the US, we too easily overlook that Chris anity is the most persecuted religion worldwide—by a fairly significant margin. Please join our 2017 Good Friday Cross Walk, uni ng our Chris an communi es. We begin at First Congrega onal Church at 10:30 AM. You may walk part or all of the way. Baby strollers and dogs welcome.

Welcome, Don Burr!
Saint Luke’s is pleased to have with us this year a deacon intern, Don Burr. A long me educator in the Norwalk Public School system and parishioner at Christ Church, East Norwalk, Don is enrolled in the Province I School for Deacons. This school provides a forma on program for those answering a call to the voca onal diaconate, the ordained ministry whose mission is to bring the concerns of a community to the a en on of the church.
Collecting Items for Cuba
through Maundy Thursday
Exci ng news: In just two weeks, a team of Saint Luke’s parishioners is off to Santa Cruz del Norte, an Episcopal church just outside Havana. A er much ve ng and a thorough search for just the right partner parish, we think Santa Cruz del Norte might be it, so the aim for this group is a final reconnaissance before returning to Darien to make a final report. As a show of friendship and care, we are collec ng items iden fied by Santa Cruz del Norte as sorely needed.
Part of Don’s study includes par cipa on in the worship and civic life of a community different from his own and we are happy to have him here with us in Darien. He has already brought his happy spirit to our Community Suppers. Please offer Don a warm Saint Luke’s welcome as he seeks to discern his own call and to help Saint Luke’s further explore ways to take our church out into the neighborhood.
