Scholarship Application
Scholarship Criteria and Application Bigs in Schools High School Mentors Big Brothers Big Sisters will award 6-$1,000 in scholarships in 2016. The scholarships will be one-time awards and will be presented by Big Brothers Big Sisters to the student recipients at the end of the school year. The scholarships are intended to be used by the recipients for tuition and/or the purchase of books at any college, university, or vocational school. Students eligible for the scholarship must be graduating seniors in good standing at Perryton High School, Gruver High School or Spearman High School and have been matched as Bigs in Schools mentors for at least two consecutive semesters. The student must have a 75 or above average. This average is to be determined in the same manner as the senior average used in ranking. Applications should be returned to the BBBS office (Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle, P.O. Box 365 [514 S. Main], Perryton, TX, 79070) no later than 5 p.m. on April 9, 2016. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will not be considered. The recipient will be determined by the Advisory Committee of BBBS –Wheatheart Satellite. Applicants will primarily be evaluated on how they have fulfilled their responsibilities as BIS mentors including effort to establish a relationship, impact on the Little, dependability and commitment so case supervision notes will be consulted. Other qualities that may be considered in making a selection include good school and community citizenship, active involvement in a variety of school and community service activities and financial need. The applicant understands that information provided in the application process may be used for publicity purposes in the agency newsletter or other media. Additionally, photos of the recipient may also be used. By submitting his/her application, the applicant consents to said use of his/her information and photo.
