Have a child taking postsecondary classes? January 03

$1,000 scholarship or $750 honorarium may be available Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation recently announced the establishment of the Schwan Scholarship Program. The program provides up to a total of 100 scholarships each year to the children of employees of The Schwan Food Company’s subsidiaries. “Schwan's Corporate Giving Foundation places great value in promoting youth education and leadership development. This program reflects those values and encourages young people to achieve academically and pursue their dreams,” said Community Relations Manager Theresa Zaske. Beginning Friday, January 3, children of current full-time Schwan subsidiary employees will be able to apply for $1,000 scholarships for undergraduate work at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational technical school. Applications must be postmarked by Saturday, March 15. To see complete eligibility guidelines and to find application forms log on to http://sms.scholarshipamerica.org/schwans. The site will not be up, however, until January 3rd. The new scholarship program will be administered by Scholarship Management Services®, a division of Scholarship America®. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin. In addition to administering the program, Scholarship Management Services selects the recipients. No current or former officer, director or employee of Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation, The Schwan Food Company or any of its subsidiaries is involved in scholarship decisions. The scholarship is very competitive. Up to 25 percent of all eligible applications received will be selected as winners, with a maximum of 100 scholarships awarded each year. Scholarship recipients who do not meet the financial-need criteria established by Scholarship Management Services will instead receive a one-time, non-renewable honorarium of $750.

Scholarship and honorarium recipients have no obligation to Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation, The Schwan Food Company or any of its subsidiaries. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript upon request. Schwan Scholarship Program is a new scholarship program, which is being offered by Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation. The previous program offered on behalf of The Schwan Food Company ended and is no longer taking new applicants. Students who are already part of the previous program will continue to receive their scholarship as long as they meet eligibility requirements.
