The Accountant DIRECTIONS: Follow along with this guide to begin learning about programming. You will be learning how to create and use variables to perform useful tasks. In this project, you will be turning our buddy Scratch Cat into a glorified accountant. Remember, never include personally identifiable information in your projects, e.g., full name, address, mother’s maiden name, cell phone number, etc.

■ Click "Create" ■ Rename project from "Untitled" to "The Accountant"

Select "Sprite1" Go to Costumes tab Select "costume2" > Click ‘X’ to remove Click "Add" on stage > Select glasses (Things) Size and position glasses Click "Add" on stage > Select pencil-a (Things) Size, position, and rotate pencil Select Scratch Cat, glasses, and pencil and group together using Group button ■ Go to info pane for "Sprite1" in sprite list > Rename to "Scratch Accountant"

The sprite list should contain a single sprite named "Scratch Accountant" ❏ Style the Backdrop ■ ■ ■ ■
Select "Stage" (to left of sprite list) Go to the Backdrops tab Select "Choose backdrops from library," then metro1 Delete backdrop1

■ Select Scripts tab ■ Select Data group ■ Create three variables: operand1, operand2, and answer ○ Click "Make a Variable" ○ Name the variable ○ Click "OK" Scratch - The Accountant

You should see the three variables listed in the "Data" group
❏ Add Code Blocks to Turn Scratch Cat into an Accountant
■ Select "Scratch Accountant" in sprite list ■ Select Scripts tab ■ Find each block you need in the block palette and drag to the script area until it resembles the set of blocks below

■ Click the green flag to launch the program ■ Test that Scratch Cat adds numbers correctly
❏ Save Project
■ FILE menu > Save now
❏ Share Project
■ Click on "See project page" ■ Update the Instructions and Notes and Credits sections ■ Click "Share"
