4th June 2015 2015

As we move towards the end of another very busy and productive year there are a number of items that I would like to keep you up to date with. Den Day I would like to thank everyone for making ‘Den Day’ on Monday such a great success. It was fabulous to see so many pupils and parents bringing so much cardboard into school to help. I could see how much effort parents had made. The pupils had a great day and made some fantastic dens. The reason for ‘Den Day’ was to allow our pupils to understand that not every child in the world has a home to sleep in and many have to sleep in ‘den’ like constructions. We raised £291 for Save the Children. Thank you. Attendance is really important We are continuing to see increasing numbers of pupils having time off school. Please can I make a plea to all parents/carers to work as hard as possible at getting pupils into school every single day. Attendance at school is really important. If pupils are not at school they will not be learning the things that the rest of their class will be. This will put them behind and make it very difficult to catch up. Please make sure that pupils arrive by 8:45am. Thank you. Attendance Improvement Officer As part of our approach to increase and improve attendance levels at school we are employing an Attendance Improvement Officer. Mr Ted Fletcher will be our new Attendance Improvement Officer starting from the middle of June. Mr Fletcher’s role will be to support parents and pupils in increasing their attendance at school by helping to overcome any problems. Where initial help, support and challenge does not have an impact and fines and other sanctions are necessary, Mr Fletcher will help to push these processes forward. The cost of school trips As a school we really value taking our pupils on educational visits to broaden their experiences. Unfortunately, the cost of these visits can be very high. We are trying really hard to keep the costs of these visits as low and possible. School does and will continue to put money towards these visits to keep the cost as reasonable as possible. Reading Diaries Please try to read with your children as often as possible at home. When you do, it would be really nice if you could record this in their Reading Diary so that teachers can see how much pupils are reading at home and know how much support we need to offer in school. Important Dates The final half of the Summer Term is a very busy period in any school. Please have a look at the Important Dates that follow and add them to your own calendars. Thank you.
