The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project Presents Dear Colleague, We are excited to announce that the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project will be offering several one-day seminars this Spring:
Units of Study: Implementing Rigorous, Coherent Writing Curriculum Led by Lucy Calkins and Amanda Hartman, these conference days will help you understand the implications of the Common Core State Standards for writing and learn how to use the new Units of Study on Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing grade-by-grade curricula to help students reach the ambitious standards. Dates and Locations: Friday, January 31st, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania – Grades 3-6 with Lucy Calkins Friday, January 31st, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania – Grades K-2 with Amanda Hartman Friday, March 7th, Las Vegas, Nevada– Grades 3-6 with Lucy Calkins One-Day Friday, March 7th, Las Vegas, Nevada – Grades K-2 with Amanda Hartman
Writing About Reading: Reading Notebooks and Projects, Literary Essays, and Text-Based Arguments Led by Mary Ehrenworth, these conference days will provide practical teaching methods for helping students have success with responses to literature, research-based writing, and close reading. You will practice responding to students’ writing, leading small groups to lift the level of what students do, and designing meaningful writing about reading curriculum. Dates and Locations: Friday, February 7th, Washington, DC – Grades 3-8 *Date Changed* Tuesday, March 18th, Portland, Oregon – Grades 3-8
The Intersection of Danielson's Framework for Teaching and Best Literacy Practice Led by Lucy Calkins, Kelly Boland Hohne, Brianna Friedman Parlitsis, Audra Robb, Janet Steinberg and Kate Dickson, this one day conference will allow district leaders and classroom teachers to forge an alignment between the Framework for Teaching (FFT) and powerful methods of literacy instruction. Date and Location: Tuesday, February 4th, New York, New York – Grades K-8
