A Note on Indexed Estimates
The Sensor Tower Data Science Team compiled the estimates represented in this digest using the Sensor Tower Store Intelligence platform. In this report, figures represented are indexed against the top performers’ total downloads and revenue. This benchmarking allows for ease of visual comparison, among other things. If an app’s reported downloads are displayed as 0.5 on the graph’s x-‐axis, then that app received half the amount of downloads that the top app received.

Top Downloads iOS Chart Toppers
About Our Download Estimates These estimates include daily download totals for iPhone and iPad, in over 80 countries. We report unique installs (meaning one download per user).
First Place for Messenger Facebook account no longer required! With even fewer barriers to entry, Messenger remains at the top with over 48 million Q2 downloads.
United States and China
13 of the top apps came from the U.S. while six were from China. This left one top twenty slot, which Japan won.
iPhone vs. iPad
Total iPad installs for Chinese apps on this list came in around 2.8 million. For the U.S. apps, this number is over 45 million.
Google on iOS Google has two apps in the iOS top 20. They collectively earned over 31.8 million downloads.

About Our Revenue Estimates Our iOS revenue estimates include the price of the app, as well as in-‐app purchases. We report Net Revenue, so the percentage deducted by Apple is not included.
Clash of Clans vs. Game of War
While Game of War raked in over $120 million in Q2 alone, Clash is still on top with nearly $210 million.
Gaming in the Lead, Followed by Music Of the highest grossing iOS apps, all top ten are from the Gaming category. Streaming music apps appear next.
Powerful Entrance from HBO Now Though this app is brand new as of Q2, it’s already topping the charts with over $26 million in revenue earned.

Fastest Growing Categories Downloads & Revenue
Heavy Download of Finance Apps With nearly 325 million downloads in Q2 alone, Finance apps for the iPhone were at the top of the pile for growth.
Gaming Isn’t Always #1 Though the Gaming category did experience revenue growth for iPhone apps, it landed the number seven slot. Categories representing more utilitarian apps were the big winners.
iPhone vs. iPad Revenue Growth Rate The top growing iPhone categories experienced much larger percentage increases than those of iPad.
iPad Downloads Reflect Typical Q2 Overall downloads on iPad devices declined this quarter, consistent with standard Q2 decreases and reported iPad sales during this period.*

Fastest Growing Countries Downloads & Revenue
China Continues Record Growth
China overtook the U.S. in Q1 with iOS downloads. In Q2, China also experienced the highest growth percentage for revenue at nearly 30%.
Vietnam on the Charts
Business is picking up in Vietnam’s mobile marketplace! The country came out #1 for download growth on both iOS devices. Vietnam also made the top 10 for iPad revenue growth.
Most Countries See iPad DL Decrease While three countries saw growth in iPad downloads, the vast majority experienced a decrease. Apple reports that last quarter (Q1 for our purposes, but Q2 on Apple’s calendar) iPad sales experienced a 23% decline, as compared to the same date range in 2014.
iPads in India India is one marketplace that remains impervious to Q2 slippage on iPad success. iPad revenue in India is up nearly 60%, with downloads up around 8%. Note: Countries that did not receive a significant number of downloads or revenue were not considered.

Top Publishers by Downloads Facebook Subsidiaries
When download estimates for FB and its subsidiaries (Instagram, WhatsApp) are combined, FB has actually surpassed Google by 25 million downloads.
Apple Apps -‐ Remember the Pre-‐Installs Over 65 million Apple apps were downloaded in Q2, but keep in mind -‐ this number does not include apps pre-‐ installed on iOS devices.
Apps per Publisher in Top 20 To grant some perspective, we calculated that the median number of apps per publisher on this list is 48.
Publishers Without Top 20 Apps Only 11 out of the top 20 publishers have Top 20 Apps (See Slide 5). Publishers with no Top 20 Apps: Gameloft, EA, Ketchup, Baidu, Xiamen Meitu, Microsoft, Disney, Outfit7, & Glu. *Tencent estimate on this graph includes download estimates of its subsidiaries.
Top Publishers by Revenue The Thing About Supercell…
Did you notice Supercell wasn’t represented on the last slide? Though they don’t make it into the top twenty for downloads, they’re dominating the revenue charts.
King.com + Machine Zone ≈ Supercell Combined revenue for King.com and Machine Zone is approximately equal to Supercell’s revenue.
Casino Games on the iPad
The three major publishers of casino apps (Big Fish, Playtika, and DoubleDown) all saw higher revenue from iPad versions of their app than iPhone versions.
Pandora & Spotify
The numbers represented here take into consideration revenue coming directly through Apple App Store subscriptions. These totals are even greater when subscriptions from desktop and alternative devices are included.
