Catering at Verulam School Since April 2001, the catering at Verulam School has been managed in-house. This gives us more flexibility and means that we can choose the supplier best suited to our needs. All fresh fruit, vegetables and bread are bought locally at competitive prices. We offer a varied range of meals and try to encourage healthier eating. A sample of the menus available is printed on the reverse of this letter and also appears on the school website. We run a cashless catering system, which means that the pupils do not have to carry cash with them during the school day. It also means that parents can now direct much more effectively how their son’s money is spent by specifying a maximum amount to be spent per day. A basic meal, chicken wraps. Pasta are available from £1.20-£2.00 at lunchtime, and any other purchase at breakfast or morning break will be extra. Any amount may be loaded on to the card. These are provided free of charge initially, but as they cost the school £5.00 each, replacements may have to be charged for depending on the circumstances. The card itself has no value as the funds are in a ”mini” bank account and not on the card and a card is blocked as soon as it is reported lost or stolen. The use of these cards also means that free school meals can be added without other pupils being aware of the fact, and those pupils with this concession may add funds to their card in the usual way. Please refer any queries you may have to the finance office.
