The NOMADS were here! MMDC is so fortunate to have the help of the NOMADS (Nomads On a Mission Active in Divine Service). They arrived on July 15th and stayed with us until August 4th. Every year we have a long list of projects for them during their 3-week stay and every year they plug away in the Central Illinois heat with smiles on their faces. The NOMADS have been instrumental in the completion of the finishing work in the 3rd Warehouse and this year they refinished and installed the used pallet racking. They also expanded our compressed air service throughout the warehouse, built shelves, built school desks, completed exterior painting projects, and much more! Johnathan Wiechmann, a Boy Scout from Fairfax, MN brought 201 Cleaning Buckets—the focus of his Eagle Scout project. He spent a year raising money and organizing the effort. Thank you Johnathan, future Eagle Scout!
Getting Ready for Harvey
Last May, the MMDC Endowment Committee approved the release of earnings from the Endowment Fund to purchase a new forklift and refurbish the old forklift. The new one was ordered in May and finally arrived in August! Efficiency has really improved thanks to all the great support from our donors.
Volunteers were rolling trash bags— getting ready for the call from UMCOR to send Cleaning Buckets for Hurricane Harvey Relief. Hundreds of Personal Dignity Kits were also built to send to Texas for this urgent need.

UMCOR KIT UPDATE: UMCOR is now collecting ONLY Cleaning (Bucket) Kits, Hygiene Kits, and School Kits. Check the UMCOR website for more details regarding this decision. MMDC will continue to collect and distribute the discontinued UMCOR Kits. Please check the project tab on the MMDC website for the most recent UMCOR and MMDC kit lists.
August Volunteer Coordinators Bad News: The Volunteer Coordinators who were scheduled for the first 2 weeks of August had to cancel their trip due to injury. Good News: Kitty & John Hahn (visiting NOMADS), Stan & Jennie Lowrey, and Ron & Sharon Monroe all stepped in to help. Mike Cornelius and Judy Bruun came in to finish out the month with John and Kitty. Thank you all! We really could not have done it without you.
