Minutes of Open Board Meeting November 11, 2015 predicted heavy rains and flooding coming this season. We are encouraged to buy extra sandbags which can be filled at scattered stations throughout the city. The Fire Department will also provide extra sand bags. Citizens should also clean gutters and drain pipes, repair roof leaks in advance of the predicted heavy rainfall. Secretary’s Report: Motion by Bonnie Paine that the minutes of the Open Board Meeting held October 7, 2015 be accepted as e-mailed to the Board and posted in the Newsletter by the SHPOA Secretary. Motion approved. Treasurer’s Report: Bonnie Paine reported beginning balance for October 1, 2015 Total Assets $260,299.55; Total Income $3,935.36; Total Expenses $7,261.96; Ending Balance 10/30/2015 Total Assets $256,972.95. Motion by Susan Caraveau to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Motion approved. Election Results: 500 ballots were cast reelecting Bonnie Paine as Treasurer and electing Mike Madrid as an Executive Board Member of the SHPOA. Included were seven writein names each receiving one vote. Executive Session Report: Don Kritzer reported that a lien had been placed on the rundown unit at 2516 Silver Oak allowing the SHPOA to get estimates and make repairs on the property. The property with an unpermitted garage at 1125 Carrotwood Ct. will be further discussed with the contractor/owner at an Executive Board meeting on November 20, 2015. Individual Director’s Comments: Christine Collins, Safety & Security Chair, reported an increase of telephone calls and emails by scammers. An incident of a stolen package containing a credit card delivered by UPS was reported. Charges were made on the card which was cancelled by the owner and repaid by the bank. UPS trucks are sometimes followed by thieves, so POA members take care to look out for expected packages. Don Continued on p.9

The annual members’ meeting held on November 11, 2015 was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by President Don Kritzer. Board Officers in Attendance: Don Kritzer, Susan Caraveau, Bonnie Paine, Christine Collins; Ken Graff absent excused. Guests: Fortyone members present including CC&R Chairman Judy Ward and Member Services Nadene Funkhouser. Guest Speaker: Hemet Fire Chief Scott Brown gave an extensive informative talk introducing himself to our community and updating the steps being taken to make the Hemet Fire Department topnotch. He complimented the department, the mayor, the city council, and the fire fighters in their cooperation in this effort. He announced that the city of Hemet “is back!“ The City Council is working hard all in accord to meet the challenges facing Hemet. The fire department consists of 45 personnel with 10 vacant positions. These vacancies have driven the use of 92% of the allocated $600,000 overtime fund this year. Chief Brown is working as part of the City Leadership Team to rectify deficiencies in the department. He encouraged interested citizens to order online his standards report with 27 recommendations by going to the Fire Department website. Chief Brown talked about health care changes impacting emergency services. He announced the introduction of a 7-digit emergency number outside the 911 system. This number will serve the assisted living facilities in the community for such secondary emergencies as calls for lift support. The Fire Department receives 15,000-16,000 emergency calls per year as compared with 8,000 in Murrieta for a similar sized area, so the demand is great. Chief Brown answered questions about “Lake Maybe” clean-up, and then spoke briefly about El Nino preparedness. A Disaster Preparedness Summit will be held at the city library November 18th at 3:00 PM. It is incumbent on each citizen to take preparation steps for disasters, especially 4

By Christine Collins 951-652-0516 tion. If you are expecting a package and may not be home .... let a neighbor know just in case the package has "legs". 11/6/15 Ribbonwood resident received calls from 321 area code (Florida) regarding "documents" that have to be delivered to residence which require immediate attention. This is a scam, tell them so and put the phone down.

Incidents that happened from 10/12/15 to 11/11/15 10/19/15 Seven Hills Drive. Bicycle with special seat stolen out of open garage while owner was coming in and out doing laundry. It was gone in minutes. 10/19/15 Message left on my phone to call 801 area code (Utah) regarding debit card been blocked and to call immediately. This is a SCAM, a recording asks for your debit card number .... I put in all 555 numbers, and then recordiing said "you can now use your debit card", and I don't even have one. Reported incident via email to Police department in Utah as I tracked phone # down. 10/20/15 Homeowner on Willowleaf reported "Time Warner" sales person with logo on his shirt calling at 7.30 p.m. was extremely pushy. He was denied entry to the home Homeowner called Time Warner to complain and was advised that that was unacceptable behavior, especially at that time of night, and the matter would be reviewed by Supervisor and Corporate. 10/22/15 Brentwood resident "won" $2.5M from Jaimaica, but would have to pay $199 via Western Union for fees. They would then pay $2M per check and $500K in cash. Area code for Jamaica is 876 ... remember ! By the way, caller said he was from Manhattan, California .... WOW! 10/30/15 Did you read about the IRS scam in the Press Enterprise? Well resident on Jasmine Way got one of those calls too originating from AZ but they were smart and put the phone down. That's the way to do it !!!

AS ALWAYS - First and foremost, if you are in imminent danger call 911. The Police phone number for non-emergency reporting of suspicious activities is 951-765-2400. El Nino preparedness tip for this month Good advice from our Fire Chief, Scott Brown, at the General Meeting on 11/11/15 at 6.30 p.m. .... to help them help us, make sure your gutters are clean !!! You can also go on the CityofHemet.org web site to find out what else you can do or call them at 951-765-2450. If you see something out of the ordinary, call and LEAVE A MESSAGE or email me at [email protected] UNTIL NEXT TIME …. STAY SAFE !

Minutes continued from p. 4 announced that Ken Graff did not run for reelection as Vice President. He announced the retirement of Gerrie Peterson as Director of newsletter advertising. Public Comments: Grace VanBuskirk commented on the poor condition of “Lake Maybe.” David VanBuskirk also commented on the conditions at “Lake Maybe” with weeds crowding the walkway, cracked concrete, and goat heads. Discussion followed with several members adding that there are dead trees and branches making a potential fire hazard. Three members had contacted the Fire Department to get the water turned off that drains into the basin so that it could be cleaned. In an earlier discussion with Fire Chief Brown, he said that the department does not want individuals cleaning out the basin due to hazardous conditions. Of the four lots there, one belongs to the City of Hemet, two belong to companies no longer in existence, and one belongs to an individual. The City will cut the trees down to 6’ and will haul trash away. Meeting adjourned at 8:06

The Holidays are once again upon us. It is that busy time of year. As now, we place the leftover Thanksgiving turkey in the freezer; it’s time to prepare for Christmas and the New Year. For those new to our Seven Hills community, approval is not necessary to decorate your homes exterior in Holiday cheer. Thanks for the cooperation I have received this year and wishing you a very Merry Christmas and the best of New Years. Barbara Corso, (951) 929-2949. Patricia Harris, (619) 733-1382.

By Bruni Adams The Seven Hills Senior Group was formed over six years ago to foster friendship among us who are lonely and whose lives have so radically been changed. We get better acquainted via the two regular monthly functions. We also go on day bus trips provided by one of the local bus companies.

Friday, December 11th 2015 - Birthday Celebration at Polly's 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. This month our group will not have any Birthday's to celebrate, so we can get together and enjoy friendship and some of Polly's great pies. Come join us! Saturday, December 19th 2015 - The Annual Christmas Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. We have reserved the private dining area at Marie Callender's 3969 W. Florida Ave. (951) 925-7727 as mentioned in the November newsletter, we will be entertained by the "Pineapple Express" singing Christmas songs and playing Ukulele. We will order from the menu. This luncheon is hosted by the board. Let's all enjoy this Holiday time together. Please mark your Calendar! Reminder! Monday, December 21st 2015 - "Festival of Lights" at the Mission Inn, Riverside. We will get picked up by Butterfield Stages, at our Rec. Hall (on the Jacaranda side) at approx. 5:00 p.m. and return at 11:00 p.m. The group has enjoyed this trip in previous years; the lights, decorations and the wonderful Christmas spirit, gives us reasons to return again! Please call Bruni at (951)766-4036 if you have questions. For more information on joining our Senior Singles group, please call Gerri Baker at (951) 658-1921
