House of Dior: Celebrate Dior’s 70 birthday at NGV Exhibition in Melbourne
!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will run fashion exhibition to celebrate the House of Dior’s 70th birthday from August 27 to November 7, 2017, which aims to show local audiences there are connection and influence between Australian and Dior.
!Three years ago, NGV already started to plan the exhibition for the House of Dior, which exhibits the characteristic fashions from Christian Dior’s first 1947 Spring collection to today. !There are only three world cities chosen to help celebrate Dior’s 70th anniversary which are Melbourne, Paris and New York. !NGV collects more than 140 female clothing to display on The House of Dior’s 70th anniversary, all the
designs win awards in fashion competition in Paris and display in the international galleries before such as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
!Roger Leong, curator of International Fashion & Textiles in NGV, she said the exhibition not only display the spring collection and also get another highlight point, include few examples of Christian Dior’s New Look collection which related to the women’s fashion in the period of post-war.
!“Through the exhibition, we aim to Australian and international audiences to find out some meaningful designs of the clothing in the twenty century.” !Mr. Leong emphasized that this exhibition will be an important the landmark of Dior’s designs. !NGV has also obtained the right to display two Dior haute couture dresses, which are “Essence d’Herbier”, “Look 10” and Bar coat as well. !“By the way, the sculptural tailoring will still go on in the Dior exhibition, the signature ball gowns and their glamorous evening dresses which become representation of the fashion house.” Roger Leong said.

!There is a surprise concern in this exhibition, Christian Dior named some of his designs “Australie”. !“The arrangement we did in this exhibition for The
House of Dior because we understand the ideas of Dior’s designs are full of revolutionary, which just like helping people to shape the sense of local fashion.” Mr. Leong said.
!All of Dior’s dresses in exhibition are harmonize with his life experience !“The concept of Christian Dior make his dresses are everyone can be a part of fashion and everybody can express their life in their outfits.”
!Mr. Leong said most of the design from Dior are
inspired by a renaissance of Frence that’s why the style of the designs are noble and suit for Hollywood and aristocracy, but a series of “Austalie” evening dresses break the transition style, which are more dramatical and calming.

!“It’s been more than two years, I remember the first time I watched the house of Dior in Paris and it was amazing!” Ariana said. !She is full of expectation before come to The National Gallery of Victoria and it does not make her feel disappointed. !“The environment of the exhibition make me feel grand, the designer Peter King use the iconic”Dior Grey “ to decorate the exhibition and he even select a palette of different Dulux greys.”Ariana said. !The reaction from the audiences are really enthusiastic too and many people upload the photos of Dior’s dresses on social media. !
