Catalyzing FIPs • Supply chain is encouraged to lead FIPs – However, can outsource parts of the FIP (e.g., writing work plan)
• Ideally fishermen, government, others are poised to make improvements with little intervention • However, in almost all cases, supply chain leverage is needed – Who in the supply chain participates in the FIP is critical to its success

Catalyzing FIPs • SFP provides support at all levels – Partners receive customized strategic advice and progress updates – Supply chain access to training and support for the Toolkit – SFP expertise in many regions/major markets to provide technical guidance and local advice to supply chain

Agreement Templates • To formalize agreement among FIP participants • FIPs have used various forms of agreements – SFP working with pro bono lawyers to design different tools
• Agreements can vary in level of detail – From a formal legal document…. …to a less formal MOU – Depends on participants, customers, other NGO partners, etc.

• Captures key information from work plan template, so outside groups can monitor/evaluate progress of FIP • Need to report publicly on your website so buyers can track progress: FishSource → Metrics → Corporate Partners

Next Steps with You • Prioritize source fisheries that need FIPs • Communicate with suppliers the need to lead/oversee FIPs • Distribute FIP Toolkit – Ongoing trainings as needed
• Explore FIP groupings across fisheries and/or suppliers • Spread the word!
