I was going through some of my old files. I found two large floppy disks that held my doctoral thesis. Then I found some old sermons on square hard disks that I have no idea how to convert. Suddenly I was reminded that life and circumstances are constantly changing nothing remains eternally the same except God’s grace and love. I have been in ministry long enough now to have gone through the eras of leisure suits (I had a yellow one that made me look like a giant canary); three-piece suits; white shirts and ties to the office; and then the casual age where the main times I wear suits are weddings and funerals. So, if you see me in a suit I hope you are getting married.

Change is hard for most of us. It is a little discouraging that my eight-year-old grandson is much more computer savvy than I am. But change can also be very exciting as we marvel at new methods and treatments in medicine; wrinkle resistant clothing (Brenda insists on this) and countless other things that make like easier. We are going through some changes at White Chapel that I feel are exciting. I am not sure what God is up to, but I believe it is going to be amazing. Most have noticed the lobby remodel; men’s restroom remodel; new floor in the high school lobby; and other physical changes like the new turf for our football field. On September 10th, we will be changing service times. The 8:30 service moves to 9:30 and the 10:45 service moves to 11 AM. Children will attend Sunday School during the 9:30 service. The adult Sunday School will be at 8:30 (starting October 1st for adults attending the 9:30 service.) The adults attending the 11AM service will continue attending Sunday School at 9:45. These changes will allow more of our younger families to attend an early service. It will also make it less of a marathon day for those involved in worship teams and tech teams. The final big area of change is in our leadership teams. We are adding two new staff people who I believe offer amazing gifts and a deep desire to serve God’s people. This week I introduced Joe Germain to the church. Joe has led worship at some amazing churches around the country. He will be leading our worship on a part time basis. In addition to his worship leading skills, Joe brings great expertise in marketing and most importantly a passion to serve Jesus. Andrew Burch arrives this week. Andrew will be leading our student ministry and serve as campus pastor for Warner Christian Academy. Andrew is also an excellent worship leader and he and his wife, Jessica will be leading worship on the Sundays that Joe is not available. Someone told me Sunday, “There is a fresh wind blowing in this place! I can’t wait to see what God is going to do.” I agree with that statement. Things are changing, but God is not. I take great comfort in that! But I must admit I do kind of miss leisure suits, floppy disks not so much!
