Prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the United States. As a matter of public safety, properly disposing of excess drugs is everyone’s responsibility. Disposing of medications through collection programs helps to keep the environment safe from both water and ground contamination. Medication access by our young people and other abusers has revealed that they easily obtain them through medicine cabinets of family and friends. Now citizens won’t have to wait for a specific take-back day to clean out their medicine cabinets. Citizens looking to dispose of unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications can now visit the safe and secure permanent drop-off location at the West Des Moines Police Department. This drop–off location will be available to the public twenty four hours a day. Please join us at the reception for those groups and agencies who continue to support keeping drugs out of the hands of our youth and other abusers.
