Dear Dragon Band Parents/Students: My name is Deshmond Johnson and it’s an absolute honor to be your new Director of Bands. I have had the privilege of watching the Shelbyville Dragon Band Program grow tremendously over the years. I attended high school in Center, graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, and have taught bands at Carthage ISD and Garrison ISD. Kasi Trent will also be joining our Dragon Band family as the assistant director. Ms. Trent is also an alumnus of both Center High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. She has taught bands at Tenaha ISD, Timpson ISD, and Nacogdoches ISD. She is coming to us from Joaquin ISD where she served as the counselor for the past two years. We are very excited and eager to begin working with you. We invite you to attend a “Meet-and-Greet” event in the band hall on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 6pm – 7pm. This is a great time for us to get to know each of you; especially our high school band students as we embark on our journey to STATE! The dates for the high school summer band camp will remain the same, and I will present more information about the camp during our “Meet-and-Greet.” These weeks are very important to the success of our organization. HYDRATION REMINDER: The summer is usually very hot & humid! Start taking care of yourselves NOW by drinking plenty of water throughout the day!
