Supplies: Background (turquoise) 9” x WOF (width of fabric) Roof (dark gray) 3 ½” x WOF” Heart & Doors (red) 2 ¾” x WOF Flying Geese & Windows (yellow) 6” x WOF Quilt Shop 1 2 ½” x 21” Quilt Shop 2 2 ½” x 23” Quilt Border for Shop 2 (dark gray) 1” x 21” Mini Quilts pre-printed quilt square Or 1 pieces of print fabric 2 ½” square for center and 4 pieces 1 ½” square for corners for each quilt Cutting Directions: Background – cut a strip 5 ½” x WOF for the center background (the remaining fabric will be needed for the shops) From the strip cut one 5” square, four pieces 2 ¾” x 5”, eighteen pieces 2 ¾” square and four pieces 1” square Use the diagram below as a guide. If you cannot get all of the pieces out of the strip, cut the rest from the other strip after cutting the pieces for the shops
From the smaller strip cut four pieces 3 ½” x 4”. From the four pieces cut two of Template 1 and two of Template 2 being sure to always place the template on the right side of the fabric. Roof – cut two pieces 3 ½” x 5 ½” and cut four pieces 3 ½” x 4”. From the four pieces cut two of Template 1 and two of Template 2 being sure to always place the template on the right side of the fabric Quilt Border Shop 2 – cut two pieces 1” x 3 ½” and two pieces 1” x 2 ½” Heart – cut two pieces 2 ¾” x 5” Doors – for Shop 1 cut one piece 4 ½” x 2 ½”. For Shop 2 cut two pieces 4 ½” x 1”, one piece 1 ½” x 1” and one piece 1 ½” x 2 ½”. Page 1 of 4
Windows- cut a strip 2 ½” x WOF from the yellow fabric. For Shop 1 cut two pieces 2 ½” x 2” and one piece 2 ½” x 5 ½”. Sub-cut this piece into two pieces 1 ¼” x 5 ½”. For Shop 2 cut one piece 1 ½” x 3 ½”, one piece 1 ½” x 2” and one piece 4 ½” x 2”. Sub-cut this piece into two pieces 4 ½” x 1”. Flying Geese – cut a 2 ¾” x WOF from remaining yellow fabric. From this strip cut six pieces 2 ¾” x 5” Quilt Shop 1 – cut one piece 2 ½” x 9 ½”, one piece 1” x 6 ½”, one piece 1 ½” x 4 ½” and two pieces 1” x 4”
Quilt Shop 2 – cut one piece 2 ½” x 5 ½”, two pieces 1” x 5 ½”, one piece 1 ½” x 5 ½”, one piece 1 ½” x 4 ½” and two pieces 1 ½” x 3 ½”
Sewing Directions: Refer to the diagram of each block and the color picture for correct placement. Use ¼” seam allowance for all seams. Pressing all of the seams open as you go will give you less bulk. Please read all of the directions before beginning. Center – 9 ½” x 18 ½” Flying Geese assembly Draw diagonal lines across the back of 12 of the 2 ¾” background squares. Place one 2 ¾” square of background fabric on top of one 2 ¾” x 5” piece of flying geese fabric with right sides together and aligned with one of the short edges. Stitch across the background fabric on the diagonal line. Press the seam open and trim excess fabric. Place another background square at the other end as shown in the picture and stitch on the line. Press the seam open and trim excess fabric. Repeat to make a total of six flying geese. Heart assembly Draw diagonal lines across the four 1” square background pieces and two of the 2 ¾”background pieces. Place the squares on the two pieces of heart fabric as shown and stitch on the lines. Press the seams open trim excess fabric. Stitch the two halves of the heart together. Using the diagram to the right as a guide, assemble the six units with flying geese and the unit with the heart and then sew the seven pieces together.

Quilt Shop 1 – 9 ½” x 9 ½” Mini Quilt – Use either a preprinted quilt square measuring 2 ½” square or choose a print from your stash and cut a 2 ½” square. Cut four 1 ½” squares from a coordinating blender. Draw a diagonal line across the smaller squares. Place one square in the corner of the 2 ½” square with right sides together and sew on the line. Press the seam open, but leave the excess fabric for stability and dimension. Repeat on the other three corners. Window with Quilt- On two opposite sides of the Mini Quilt sew a window piece measuring 2 ½” x 2”. Press seams to the window fabric. Next sew a window piece measuring 1 ¼” x 5 ½” to the top and another to the bottom to complete the window. Assembling the Rest of the Shop – On the two short edges of the window, sew a piece of building fabric 1” x 4”. Then along the bottom edge sew a piece of building fabric 1” x 6 ½”. Press all seams to the building fabric. Add the door piece measuring 4 ½” x 2 ½” to the right edge and then add the building piece measuring 4 ½” x 1 ½” to the right edge of the door. Sew the 2 ½” x 9 ½” piece to the top edge. Assembling the Roof - sew a Template 1 background piece to a Template 1 roof piece. Then sew a Template 2 background to a Template 2 roof piece. The resulting rectangles should measure 2 ½” x 3 ½”. They will be sewn to ends of the 3 ½” x 5 ½”roof piece as shown in the diagram. Press the seams and then sew the roof to the top of the shop.

Quilt Shop 2 – 9 ½” x 9 ½” Right Side of Shop - Follow the directions for the Mini Quilt in Shop 1 to make another little quilt for the side of this shop. On two opposite edges of the quilt sew a 2 ½” x 1” quilt border piece. Then sew a 3 ½” x 1” border piece to the top and bottom. Next sew a 1 ½” x 3 ½” piece of building fabric to the right and left edges of the quilt. Add a 1 ½” x 5 ½” building piece to the top and a 2 ½” x 5 ½” piece to the bottom to finish the right side of the shop. Door and Window – Start with a 1 ½” x 2” window piece. Along one short edge sew a 1 ½” x 1” door piece. Along the other short edge sew a 1 ½” x 2 ½” door piece. Press the seams and then attach a 1” x 4 ½” door piece to each long edge. Next sew a 1” x 4 ½” window piece to each the same long edges. Then add a 1 ½” x 3 ½” window piece to the top. Finishing the Shop - Sew a 1” x 5 ½” building piece to each long edge of the door and window piece. Then sew the 1 ½” x 4 ½”building piece to the top edge. This completes the left side of the shop. Sew the right and left sides of the shop together. Following the instructions for Shop 1 make the roof and attach it to the top of the shop.
Complete the row by sewing Quilt Shop 1 to the left edge of the center and Quilt Shop 2 to the right edge. To personalize your row, embellish with trims or decorative stitching and maybe add the names of your favorite places for a shop hop.
