President’s Letter
Fall Newsletter 2015
Dear Sisters,
Sigma Sigma Sigma
INDIANAPOLIS SUBURBAN ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF
As I wrap up my final year in the current officer term and my fifth year as your president, I want to thank you for entrusting me to lead our chapter through the last several years. I’ve learned a lot and it’s been a true pleasure. Experiencing convention for the first time as a delegate, travelling to Evansville to support the Delta Eta chapter, and attending the 50th anniversary of Walton House are just a few highlights of the last 5 years. Standing in front of our beautiful Heart Home and before the grave of Mabel Lee Walton was an amazing experience. Walking where so many wonderful sisters and leaders that came before us was very humbling. If you’ve never been to Woodstock, VA or embraced all that Walton House has to offer, I would encourage you to make the trip. This weekend experience not only bonded me even closer to my sisters but also bonded me to Tri Sigma like never before. I can finally truly understand our history and our Heart Home. I thank you again for providing me with the experience of being your president and I hope to see all at the various events we have planned this year. Ever forward, Joie Montgomery

Walton House 50th Anniversary A group of 5 sisters from our chapter travelled to Longwood, VA for the 50th anniversary celebration of Walton House and the dedication of our new national headquarters. Our weekend was filled with laughter and exchanged stories of our Tri Sigma memories. We enjoyed tours of Walton House and the national headquarters and a humbling memorial at the gravesite of Mabel Lee Walton. The archives committee has been busy restoring many artifacts and have done a beautiful job of turning our Heart Home into a true museum dedicated to our beloved sorority. During our tour of Walton House, a board member mentioned the next item to be purchased was drapes for the sunroom. After discussion with several of our chapter members at our May business meeting and the garage sale, Kara Rees looked into what it would cost our chapter to purchase the drapes for Walton House. The quote from Inez Fridley, Chairman of the Walton House Board, came in at $2146.70. After further discussion with more sisters, it was decided that we could probably raise this money over a 2-year period. Since Inez needed to know immediately if our chapter was going to commit to raising the money, we answered in the affirmative saying we would raise as much money as we can in the next 2 years but we couldn’t guarantee we would be able to raise the entire amount. Every year we send $4 to Walton House for each chapter member who pays dues and we also send the money we raise at the December Make It, Bake It, Fake It Auction to Walton House but we never know how the board decides to use our money. By agreeing to raise as much money as we can over the next 2 years, we are designating where our money goes. If you would like to make a personal donation to help with the cause, you can add money to your dues check and send to our treasurer, Lori Keating. Anything over $35 we will assume goes to Walton House. Additionally, we will open a gofundme.com account in May 2016 if we aren’t close to reaching our goal and will share that with Tri Sigma’s in Indiana. I think our chapter will be able to accomplish this task for our Heart Home. Thank you in advance for your support. National Dues = $45.00 paid nationally by February 1 online at: http://trisigma.org/Home.mvc/Content/?file=Forms/AlumnaeDues.xml Local Chapter Dues = $35.00 paid locally to our treasurer, Lori Keating 7716 Normandy Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46278

Survey Results A survey was conducted of members currently on our e-mail distribution list to better understand the kind of events ladies in the area would be interested in attending and the days of the week that work better than others. Interests and timing for the 30 responders were all over the place so the officers have tried to plan gatherings on week nights and weekends to accommodate all schedules as well as a variety of functions including a family event, a couple of social events, and a philanthropic meeting in addition to our regulator business meetings. The majority of interest fell to social events followed by local philanthropic events, business meetings, educational meetings, National events, collegiate chapter assistance, and family events respectively. We can group response to the question “I would most likely attend events if…” into the following categories:
Works with schedule During the week On the weekend Business portion was short Planned ahead Centrally located
Charitable event Dinner Not too expensive Was fun or interesting Has a purpose Family friendly
If you have questions or would like a more detailed summary of the survey results, you may contact Joie Montgomery, President, at
[email protected] or 317-403-6852. Please note that individual survey responses will be kept confidential.
New Chapter Website Sigma Sigma Sigma National Headquarters has aligned with GIN to ensure all collegiate and alumnae chapter websites have a consistent look and feel. The new Indianapolis Suburban Alumnae Chapter website is live and has replaced our Wix website. The new website has two key components: a public website and a members only site. You will use the same login information you use to access Sigma Connect to access the members only section. In the members only section of the website, we can:
use polls to RSVP to chapter events use the document share feature to view meeting minutes, chapter bylaws, and other chapter documents receive e-mail and text messages from the chapter view announcements to the chapter create a profile which includes your personal contact information – if you update your information with the chapter website, it also updates with the national database.
Our chapter will be shutting down the G-mail account we use to send e-mails to the chapter. Utilizing the e-mail section of the website is a safer and more user-friendly option than using a typical email system. In order to continue receiving e-mail from the chapter, you must log in as we can’t manually add you. At a minimum, please log into the website but if you’d like to complete your profile, after you have logged in, click on your name in the top right corner and select Edit Profile. From here, you can complete your profile, upload a photo, and subscribe to receiving text messages. To log in, simply navigate to http://www.indianapolissuburban.trisigma.org/ and log in at the bottom of the web page using the same credentials you use to access Sigma Connect. Please take minute and log yourself in so that you don’t miss out on chapter activities and news. Thank you for your help! Page 4
