Silent Night, Holy Night UMH# 239 Silent night holy night, all is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy infant, so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace. Silent
Silent night, holy night, shepherds quake at the sight; glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing Alleluia! Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born! Silent night, holy night Son of God, love’s pure light; radiant beams from thy holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth. Silent night, holy night, wondrous star, lend thy light; with the angels let us sing, Alleluia to our King; Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born!

Prelude Call To Worship L: Tonight we welcome Jesus, the Light of the World P: But the world is in so much darkness: the darkness of hate, fear and violence. How can we welcome Him to a world such as this? L: 2017 years ago, Jesus was born into a world of darkness just like this. We needed His light then, and we need it now even more. Hymn……………………….….O Little Town of Bethlehem………………….....UMH# 230 The Lighting of Candles L: Friends, John spoke of the coming of Jesus as light piercing the darkness. Darkness, of itself, is not bad-for God created it as well as the light. On the first day of creation, God separated the light and the darkness, night and day, and called them both good! So, we speak not of natural darkness, but rather of the night of human sinfulness. The rebellion of Adam and Eve and the tragedy of Cain and Abel, continue to bring unceasing pain to the human race and the whole creation. In this darkness of sin, we cannot see God, ourselves or others. It is Jesus Christ who dispels that darkness! He shows us in His life of service, self-sacrifice and unconditional love is what it means to be human. His light reveals the Image of God which is the true birthright of every human being and the glory of all creation. All: We affirm what The Gospel of John proclaimed about Jesus, that “...What has come into being in Him was life, and the life was the light of all people. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it!”
