"EASY TO MAKE" HALF APRON MATERIALS: 1 yard cotton fabric * Matching thread Bias tape (1pkg.) -wide-double fold (optional)** Marker pen / ruler with 45 degree angle

CUT FABRIC IN THE FOLLOWING SIZES: Apron Body – 23” long x 44” wide** Waistband - 4" long x 24" wide Ties (cut 2) - 4 ½ " long x 30" wide Square Pocket (cut 1 or 2) - 5 1/4" wide x 8" long (optional cut from remnant pieces)

INSTRUCTIONS: 1)Fold in the short sides of the apron body ¼", press, fold ¼" again, press & pin in place. Stitch close to folded edge. Fold in bottom edge of apron body ¼", press, fold again 1", press & pin in place. Stitch close to folded edge (or, if desired, blind stitch by hand).

** If using bias tape, cut apron body 22" long, skip step #1, and follow manufacturers directions on how to apply tape along apron body edge.

2) On the top Edge of the apron body, sew a running stitch ½" in from the raw edge, and again 5/8" in from the raw edge, leave the threads long on each end. Pull bobbin threads gently to gather fabric.

3) Fold in short ends of waistband ½" (wrong sides together), press. Place raw edge of long side of waistband on gathered edge of apron body, right sides together. Pin together, adjusting gathers as needed, baste, stitch sections together ½" from raw edge, press seam toward waistband. Fold in raw edge of other long side of waistband ½", press, then fold and press waistband in half lengthwise.

4) For each tie: fold in half lengthwise, press. Take ruler and marking pen to measure a 45 degree angle from the raw edge to the folded edge (Picture A), using a ½" seam allowance, stitch long raw edge and 1/8"in from "marked" line, trim all edges to ¼", turn right side out, press. Pleat raw edged end. Fold completed tie together lengthwise at the raw edge, make a stitch from the approximate "center" of the raw edge down 1 inch, at an angle, to the fold (Picture B), trim off excess, close to sewn edge. Or, another method is to hand-baste a running stitch ½" in from the raw edge, and gather. Picture A:

5) Place the pleated (or gathered) end of ties 1" in, on the wrong side of each waistband end, baste in place. Making sure ties are pulled out of the way, fold waistband in half , and to the back (or wrong side) of the apron body, lining up the folded edge to the seam line, pin in place, baste if desired. On the front side of the waistband top stitch ¼" in from the outer edge starting at the top of one short side, then along the bottom of the waistband, and up the other short side.

OPTIONS: Pocket(s) Fold in to wrong side long edges ¼" , press. Fold in bottom and top edge to wrong side ¼", press. Fold in top edge again 1", press, Pin pocket in place, stitch close to pocket edge along one long side, then along bottom, and back up other long side, trim thread.
