The College on Simulation is: ?

A: an open organization in which all mernlxrs have an opportunity to participate. B: controlled by a small old-simulators network that distributes offices, opportunities and privileges as it sees fit. Which characterization is correct? 1 cannot give an objective answer, since B implies that I am part of the problem. But I do have some suggestions that couId move us toward A if we are tm close to B. Sponsored Sessions

One of the most important activities ofthe TIMS College on Simulation is organizing invited sessions for the ORSAfllMS and TIMSlORSA Joint National Meetings, as well as the International TIMS Meetings. These invited sessions help (along with the contributed sessions) to insure a quality program in the simulation track. Organizing these sessions is the responsibilityof the Vice Presidentofthe College (currentlyDavidGol&man, and before that, me). The sessions are organized in the following manner: The Vice President asks people to chair the sessions, and the chairs in turn ask other people (usuallythree)to present talks that have a common theme. All of thjs occurs nine months prior to the conference(longer for the international meetings). This approach has one potential flaw: The VP typically asks colleagues that they know personally to chair the sessions. The session chairs in turn ask colleagues with similar interests to speak. The result can be a narrowly focussed simulation track. David knows many more people than 1 do (conservativelyestimated at 1000 times more), but I would nevertheless like to see the topics represented in the track become more varied. The only way thjs can occur is if folks who would like to organize sessions propose them to the Vice President. While the VP has final say on whether the session is appropdate, or if there is an o p n slot, in most cases such proposals will be welcomed. And remember, the planning occurs nine months in advance. Please consider organizing a session. Nominating Officers The College Bylaws state that "Anygroup of10or more members may then nominate a candidate for any office by submitting a signed petition to the Secretary-Treasurer no later than February 1 [of election years]."
