MISSION STATEMENT Through shared leadership, the Shelton Intermediate School fosters student growth by means of diverse and challenging educational opportunities. With the teamwork of our staff, parents, and community, we commit ourselves in providing a comprehensive educational experience with high academic standards for all students. We commit to developing successful citizens in an ever-changing global society through a learning environment that has a focus of respect, responsibility, and safety. GOAL OF SHELTON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL The goal of Shelton Intermediate School is to increase student performance in the areas of literacy, numeracy, and inquiry through consistent implementation of best instructional-based practices, which address 21st Century skills, are supported by data, and measured through standards-based assessments. Below are the members of the school team who will be the responsible for the implementation and monitoring of this School Improvement Plan, hereafter referred to as the SIP. The objective of the SIP is to eliminate the disparity in achievement for all students by providing the necessary means for students to succeed academically. The goals that were developed within the plan reflect the necessary improvement needed to make adequate yearly progress. The strategies listed under each of our goals reflect the steps that will be taken by administrators, teachers, and other support staff to meet our primary aim -- to ensure that all Shelton Intermediate School students, regardless of racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, or linguistic subgroup, have the skills and knowledge required to be successful members of the community. GOALS: 1. By June 2017, 80% of all 7th and 8th grade students will meet proficiency on the Reading Inventory and / or increase by 50 or more Lexile points on the SRI. 2. By June 2017, 75% of all 7th and 8th grade students will meet a level 3 Smarter Balance equivalence as measured by NWEA MAP assessment in math (Grade 7 RIT score of 235 and Grade 8 RIT score of 242) or meet their projected fall to spring growth. 3. By June of 2017, 100% of the student population will report a positive connection to SIS and/or its staff as a result of the organizational changes to SIS’s structure and its behavior management system, which enhances the safety of the learning environment and supports the students’ ability to succeed, as measured by student SSPs, a spring school climate survey, and/or individualized behavior plans.
