Sisne, N orth Peak, Kanjiroba Himal. A Swiss expedition was com posed of D aniel Chevallier, Pierre G alland, Jean-C laude Chautem s, A ndré M eillard, A ndré Egger, Dr. G ilbert V illard and me as leader. We took 20 days to travel from Surkhet to Base Cam p at 13,300 feet in the Chaudhabise valley, which we reached on A pril 11. Late snows kept us from placing Base Cam p as near to the peak as we wished. W e had to establish Cam p I at 14,425 feet just short of a 16,275-foot pass to the east and descend to Cam p II (A dvanced Base) at 13,800 feet in the Changda Khola. The rock of the northw est ridge of Sisne was very rotten. Cam ps III, IV and V were placed on the ridge at 16,900, 18,575 and 20,050 feet on A pril 15, 23 and 29 respectively. On M ay 3 Cheval lier and G alland climbed to the north sum m it of Sisne (6470 meters, 21,227 feet). The ridge to the higher south sum m it (6620 meters, 21,720 feet) was knife-edged; they felt it could be better climbed from the Jagdula valley. The sum m it climbers did not attem pt to traverse the ridge. R uedi M eier , Section de N euchâtel, Club A lpin Suisse
