1

Basing on the project view, this school is located in slum area of visakhapatnam, 15km away from the city center. I believe this is in good location to educate the drop out children from poor families. •

Attitude of the staff? Staff is really helpful. They showed all the parents meeting minutes records/books, staff register, students registers etc. Also explained all about school performance and introduced to students. I was able to interact with children.

Additional information about the objectives of the organization:

Preliminary Checks: •

Determine if the school is operating as stated (School timing: 9 am to 4 pm from Monday - Saturday) Yes. Working form 9am to 4pm., Monday to Saturday

Determine the number of students at the school by checking the attendance register. (According to the 2011-12 proposal, supposed to be 50 children) I found 45 students according to attendance register. Staff informed that 5 students were dropped out in this academic year.

Please count the number of students on the day of site visit. On the day of the visit, total attendance was 39

Determine the number of teachers/staff by checking attendance registrar. (According to 2011-12 proposal, there should be 1 in-charge, 3 teachers and one ayah). 4 teachers and ayah were there when I visited.

Please list the teachers available at school at the time of site visit. Teachers: Mrs.Parvathi, Mrs.Paidiraju, Mrs.kalyani, Mrs. Venkata Laxmi Aaya: Mrs. Parvathi.

Please comment on the cleanliness of the school premises. Satisfactory. But needs some improvement in sanitation. According the information provided by staff, school got painted in the beginning of the academic year but needs improvement.

Vocational Program: •

Sports material – Throw balls, tennis court, skipping ropes, shuttle bats and indoor game materials? Yes, I found carom board, foot ball, ring, skipping rope etc.,

Other observations: •

If possible, talk to students and ask them some basic questions (e.g., maths); observe a teacher teach a class; notice what books/charts/other materials are in the class? Yes, fairly good

Please check the parents meetings frequency and meeting minutes. Yes. I did check and they are conducting parents meetings.

If possible, talk to some parents and ask them how often the school has been open in the past month (if it was closed for certain days, why?); how often they send their children to school; how often do the children get food/mid-day meal; what is their opinion of this school and the teachers; etc. I could not get a chance to interact with the parents as they were not available at that time.

Opinions: •

In the site visitor’s opinion, why should ASHA fund this project? Benefiting 50 students from this project and dedicated teachers and staff.

What reasons if any, does the site visitor see for ASHA not to fund this project? None.

What improvements, if any, would the site visitor suggest to the project? I would suggest some paintings to the school building or rooms and uniform for students.
