INTRO Tell the children about relationships where we know that the other person would stand up for us. Maybe these include the relationship between siblings or between best friends. Tell the children that our relationships with these kinds of close friends and family help us know that we aren't alone when things get tough in our life.

Did you know Jesus told his disciples that even after he left they would have someone they could always count on?
WRAP-UP Explain to the children that in our scripture this morning, taken from the book of John, Jesus tells his disciples that even though he is going to have to leave them for good, the Holy Spirit will be with them always to help them. Tell them that no matter what happens in life, the Holy Spirit will always be surrounding them even when they can't see it. Explain that whatever happens in our lives, we can remember that we are not alone, that God gives us support and care through the people around us, our friends and family, as well as the Holy Spirit, who teaches us, encourages us, and even mysteriously stands up for us when we aren't sure what to do or what to believe. Because of that, we are never ever alone.
PRAYER Dear God, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to be with us throughout our lives and in all situations. Help us to remember that we are never alone and to remind others around us that they aren't either, because we're there for them and so are you. Amen.
