This is a very introductory level where we want the skaters to have fun and get an understanding of what Synchronized Skating is all about. Travel is minimal and they practice weekly starting Mid-July through approximately January 31st. The competition schedule will dictate the length of the season. The main difference between Synchro Skills 1, 2 and 3 is the age requirements and length of program.

PRELIMINARY & PRE-JUVENILE

Preliminary: Skaters must be under 12, majority under 10. Program length: 2:10 Pre-juvenile: The majority of the team must be under 12. Program length: 2:25

Recommendations for Individual practice/lessons:

Skills: Preliminary (All skills on both feet)

1 skating class 1 specialty skating class (power, spins,etc.) 1 MIF lesson per week 1 Freestyle lesson per week Individual practice time should match instructed time.

These levels are very competitive. There is more travel required for these teams, including a trip to Wichita, Kansas. These teams practice one day weekly starting Mid-July through approximately January 31st. Before Labor Day, practices are sporadic and may be more than once a week. The main difference between prelim & pre-juv is the age requirements, and prejuv adds an off ice practice session after Labor Day.

OPEN JUVENILE & JUVENILE

Open Juvenile: Skaters must be under age 20. All skaters must be passed the preliminary moves in the field test. Program length: 2:40 Juvenile: Skaters must be under 13 and have passed the pre-juvenile moves in the field test. Prgram length: 3:10

At Starlights we try to run our open juvenile and juvenile teams similarly. The shorter program length allows for less practice time for open juvenile. Before Labor Day, practices for both teams are sporadic and may be more than once a week. Open juv practices one day weekly starting June through approximately January 31st. Following Labor Day, the juvenile team practices two days weekly through January 31st. If they qualify for the U.S. Synchro Champs, their season is extended to late February. Both teams have on ice and off ice sessions.

INTERMEDIATE, NOVICE & JUNIOR

Intermediate: Under age 18 as of 7/1/17. All skaters must have passed the juvenile moves in the field test. Program length: 3:30 Novice: Under age 16 as of 7/1/17: All skaters must have passed the intermediate moves in the field test. Prgram length: 3:30 Jr: Age 13-19 as of 7/1/17. All skaters must have passed the novice moves in the field test. Two Programs: Short 2:50, Free 4:00

From June to Labor Day the intermediate, novice and junior teams have skills days once a week. Summer team practices are sporadic, and may be more than once a week. Each team also has a choreography bootcamp: intermediate: Aug. 4-6 novice July 21-23, junior: June 9-13. After Labor Day, novice and intermediate practice two days weekly (1 weeknight, and 1 weekend day). They also have a second weeknight for skills. Junior practices 3 times per week (1 weeknight and 2 weekend days) They too, have a second weeknight for skills. All teams have off ice sessions attached to each practice. The fall schedule goes through January 31st and if the teams qualify for the U.S. Synchro Champs, their season is extended to late February. The junior team was a member of Team USA last season and hopes to continue to be a member for the 2017/18 season. This will mean the team will also compete internationally.
