SIX-GAME WINNING STREAK: The Flames are looking to extend their sixTHREE-GAME SERIES - FLAMES FIELD game winning streak this week. In those six Friday UIC vs. Valpo 4 p.m. Flames Field games, UIC has recorded a .375 batting aver Friday UIC vs. Valpo 6 p.m. Flames Field age with 49 runs, 69 hits, 21 doubles and four Saturday UIC vs. Valpo TBA Flames Field home runs. The Flames own a .554 slugging percentage, a .413 on-base percentage and THIS WEEK’S OPPONENTS have totaled four stolen bases in those games. Ten UIC players batted over .300. UNSTOPPABLE WEEKEND: The Flames outscored Youngstown State in a three-game series sweep last weekend, 29-6. UIC totaled 36 hits, nine doubles, 26 RBI and two home runs in three contests. The Flames had 10 players bat over .300. Freshman Brittany Wilson was 3-for-7 with four runs. Senior Ashlee Ackerman posted a .300 batting average (3-for10) with two runs and four RBI. UIC leads the series, 46-5 ON THE MARK: Senior Sarah Clynes and freshman Whitney Orellana have recorded impressive showings in the circle for the Flames in conference play this season with only one loss in seven games. Clynes is a perfect 5-0 (1.06 ERA) in league games with 28 strikeouts in 33.0 innings pitched. The junior has allowed just five earned runs in those contests. Orellana picked up her first two collegiate victories last week against Green Bay and Youngstown State. The freshman has fanned 16 batters in 17.0 innings.
SUPER STAR SARAH: Junior Sarah Clynes recorded a .474 batting average (9-for-19) in a 5-0 week in Horizon League action last week. The junior totaled seven runs, three doubles, nine RBI and two home runs. Clynes was 1-for-2 with two runs, one double and one RBI in a 13-1 victory over Green Bay in five innings on April 2. The pitcher/designated player then went 1-for-4 with one run, two RBI and one home run n a 6-0 shutout against the Phoenix in game two. She was 2-for-4 with one run in a 7-2 victory over Youngstown State on April 5. Clynes notched a single-game school record with five hits in a 17-2 win over YSU on April 5. The junior drilled a solo home run with three runs and six RBI to complete the series sweep. 2008 SEASON-HIGHS: UIC totaled a season-high 17 runs and 15 RBI in the series finale versus Yougstown State on April 6 in Canfield, Ohio. The Flames were just two hits shy of tying the single-game school record with 19 hits in the series finale over the Penguins. UIC tallied a season-best seven doubles in a 13-1 win in five innings versus Green Bay at home on April 2. UIC totaled a season-high three home runs in an 8-4 victory over Louisville on March 21. IN THE LEAGUE: Junior Sarah Clynes ranks third in the Horizon League with 26 runs, followed by Ashlee Ackerman with 24 (4th). Clynes and freshman Alicia Abbott are tied for third with nine double each. Clynes owns fifth with a .615 slugging percentage and second with eight home runs. CLYNES NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Sarah Clynes was named Horizon League Player of the Week after recording a 2-0 mark in UIC’s opening weekend of league action against Butler in Indianapolis on March 31. The junior fanned 12 batters in 14.0 innings of work and recorded her fourth shutout of the season with two over the weekend. Clynes allowed just five hits in two complete games. SOLO SHOTS: Sarah Clynes has led off three of UIC’s games this season with solo home runs. The pitcher/designated player drilled a solo shot to right center on the first pitch of the game against Louisville on March 21. Clynes then hit a homer to open up play against Butler on March 29, followed by a leadoff homer in the series finale on March 30. Clynes leads the Flames with eight home runs, ranking second in the league.
