Q&A: Is Haubstadt Little League switching names? Yes, we are in the process. We will soon be known as Haubstadt Baseball & Softball League. Please make checks for registration fees to Haubstadt Little League as this process isn’t complete yet. Are we switching from Little League to Cal Ripken? Yes. This is allowing us to do two things. Boys will go back to the April 30 cut off date, which is the universal cut off date for baseball except Little League. Also, the 11 and 12 year old boys will now be playing at distances of 50 foot mound and 70 foot bases instead of 46/60. Why are we splitting into 3 divisions? This is going to allow 9 year olds to play live pitch. This is how most Towns operate. We will have a Rookie League (7-8 year olds plus an opportunity for 6 year olds to tryout for Rookie League) which will be coach pitch, Minor League (9-10 year olds) which will be live pitch from 46/60, and Major League (11-12 year olds) which will be live pitch from 50/70. Is there a South Gibson Cal Ripken? Yes, we have joined with Fort Branch and Owensville to form this. It will be similar to how Babe Ruth (13-15 year old boys) already works. You will still be placed on a team in Haubstadt for regular season, but we will play more games against Fort Branch and Owensville teams than we used to. Also, we will now combine All Star teams between the three Towns. Do you need a new bat? If you are in Rookie, Minor, or Major you will. You will need a bat with a USA baseball stamp on it, bats without this stamp will not be allowed. This is part of the new USA baseball movement and youth leagues affiliated with Cal Ripken, Little League, Pony, etc. are affected by this nationwide. T-ball, Softball, and Babe Ruth bat standards have not changed. When are Opening Day ceremonies? Opening Day ceremonies will be on Saturday, April 21. We may play games prior to this date.
