06/23/15 INFORMATION RELEASE COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT PARTICIPATES IN 2015 SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN THROUGH SOLANO COUNTY On Wednesday June 24th and Thursday June 25th of 2015, various law enforcement agencies from within Solano County will participate in the 2015 Solano County Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. This annual event brings local law enforcement together to show their support for the Special Olympics and the athletes who participate in the games. On Wednesday June 24 th, the Special Olympics torch will begin its journey through Solano County beginning in Benicia at 8 am and ending on Thursday June 25th in Dixon around 4 pm. Special Olympics athletes may also accompany law enforcement runners on some portions of the run. The following law enforcement agencies will be participating in this year’s torch run: Benicia Police Department, Vallejo Police Department, Solano County Sheriff’s Office, Suisun Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (Solano State Prison), California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (California Medical Facility), Vacaville Police Department, California Highway Patrol and Dixon Police Department. The Special Olympics torch is scheduled to depart Benicia Police Department at 8 am on Wednesday June 24th where they will run to Benicia State Park. From Benicia State Park, Vallejo Police Department will receive the torch and run it to the Vallejo Ferry Building on Mare Island Way where it will be handed to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol. This will end this leg of the race for the day. Beginning on Thursday June 25th at 8:30 am, the Marine Patrol will bring the torch to the Suisun Marina where the Solano County Sheriff’s Office and Suisun Police Department will run it to the fountain in the front of the Solano County Government Center. There it will be passed to Fairfield Police Department who will run the torch through town, down Cement Hill Road and Joseph Gerevas Drive to Peabody Road. At that location, the torch will be passed to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Solano Prison. Solano Prison will run the torch to the front gate of CDCR California Medical Facility on California Drive in Vacaville. They will hand off the torch to CMF there. CMF staff will then run the torch to Vacaville Police Department at their main office on Merchant Street. Vacaville Police Department will accept the torch and run through town to the intersection of Orange Drive and Walnut Road. At Walnut Road, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol will receive the torch and run to the intersection of Batavia Road and West A Street in

Dixon. At that location, Dixon Police Department will be passed the torch and they will run it to their office located in downtown Dixon. There will be Special Olympics athletes participating in the Solano County torch run this year as well. These athletes will run some of the legs as well as participate in the passing of the torch at different locations. All media is invited to cover this annual event and there will be opportunities for photographs of participants during the passing of the torch.
