St. John A.M.E. Church Soup Kitchen Serving Food and Compassion From whnt (TV).com Posted on: 6:30 pm, March 31, 2014, by Clarissa McClain, updated on: 09:45pm, March 31, 2014 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – One Huntsville church is on a mission to show compassion to those in need. St. John A.M.E. Church members are doing it in the form of food, providing free bowls of soup and sandwiches, at least once a month. WHNT NEWS 19’S Clarissa McClain saw the church’s sign, inviting people to come on in! That’s what she did and brought a Pay it Forward surprise with her. The cooks in this kitchen are busy, pouring soup, packing lunch sacks and making sure every person that comes through the doors of the church in downtown Huntsville leaves with something to eat. Charlsie Brooks started the soup kitchen in 2010. They feed people on the third and fourth Tuesday of each month, but there’s so much need, Brooks say it could be done more.
Greater St. Paul AMEC, Scottsboro
“We could do this every week and every day,” says Brooks. “Our church now has increased the funding and of course we have members that volunteer to prepare the delicious soups.” Members donate food and money. The ladies are reimbursed for some of the food expenses. But with at least 50 people coming each time, soup kitchen co-chair Maeola Peoples says they’ve informed the pastor and other church leaders the need is great. “We showed him that there was a need for this and not only that, it’s growing,” explains Peoples. “So we have to start asking for donations. Hopefully, we can grow to where we can start serving every day.” Ask and you shall receive. WHNT NEWS 19 surprised the soup kitchen ministry with $319. It is cash that Peoples plans to put right back into the feeding ministry.

“All of this money will go back to buy items needed for the soup kitchen,” assures Peoples.

April Foot Health Awareness Month General Foot Care Tips www.footcaredierct.com
Wash your feet daily. Rinse off all soap and dry thoroughly, especially between toes. Trim nails straight across, and not too short. Don't cut out or dig at corners. Do not trim, shave, or use over-the-counter medicines to dissolve corns or calluses Wear clean socks or stockings, changed daily. Don't wear any that are too short or too tight. Wear shoes that fit. Leather is best because is breathes like skin and molds to your foot. But cheaper canvas is fine for fastgrowing children. Soles should be strong and flexible with a good gripping surface. Insoles should be cushioned to absorb the jolts of walking on hard surfaces. Arch supports distribute weight over a wider area. Rigid shanks also give added support. High heels are fun and look good, but they should not be worn too long at a stretch or for much walking. Besides cramping the toes, they change body posture, making backaches more likely. Switch shoes from day to day. Use foot powder. See your doctor if you have persistent foot problems.

If a voter does not have one of the approved forms of photo ID as stated in the law, then he or she may receive a free Alabama photo voter ID from various locations including the Secretary of State's Office, local county board of registrars' offices, and a mobile location to be determined by the Secretary of State's Office. A voter who is required to present valid photo identification but who does not do so will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot as provided for by law. In addition, a voter who does not have a valid photo ID in his or her possession at the polls shall be permitted to vote if the individual is positively identified by two election officials as a voter on the poll list who is eligible to vote and the election officials sign a sworn affidavit so stating.
