SSFC Competes Well in State Cups In 2006, SSFC did not have any teams compete in Washington’s most competitive state cup. In 2009, 4 SSFC teams stepped up to the challenge of the state Championship Cup. G94 Crush recovered from a first game loss, to win the next two games and advance to the elimination round. After a difficult spring league G96 Red came back strong in state cup action claiming 3 ties, including a 1-1 battle against 8th ranked Snohomish. G96 Red were one point shy of advancing to the elimination round. G95 Red started strong with a 1-0 win over Harbor FC, but dropped the next two games ending their highly successful season which include 3 tournament championships and a league title. G93 Red, hampered with injuries and spring break vacations, dropped their first two tournament games. However, they easily secured their P2 league status. In challenge cup action, G92 White lost their first game, while G92 Red lit up the goals scoring 8 times in the first two games and will be advancing to the elimination round. State Cups Update: G92 Red advanced to the elimination round, but lost in overtime to Tusk Dolphins 1-2. After dropping first two games, G93 Red tied PDL team Harbor FC 1-1 and won 3-0 over Premier 1 Sparta. G94 Crush advanced to the State Championship Quarterfinals with a 2-1 win over Washington Premier. Overall in State Championship competition our GU12-GU15 teams’ recorded a total record of 5-5-4 (G94 still playing). Not bad given the first entry o f some teams in this challenging tournament. This also
exceeds the number of wins that our competitor accumulated even though they entered twice as many teams.
G94 Crush Ties #1 team in Nation After sweeping California and Oregon teams at the RAC in early March, SSFC G94 Red qualified for the semi-finals competition of the Far West League and traveled to California for another test of the nation’s best teams. A tough start for SSFC as they lost to the #1 team from Las Vegas 0-2 and then to Arsenal of California 3-4. Sunday the girls recovered and tied the #1 ranked team in the nation, So. Cal Blues 1-1.
Tryouts Begin Monday May 4th Washington Youth Soccer determines the earliest date tryouts may occur for each age group. This year, different age groups are permitted to start at different times, so pay close attention to the tryout schedules now posted to our website under tryouts. Also, note that the teams forming at tryouts will be for the 2009-2010 season, thus a current U12 team will now be trying out for U13. At U10 and U11, we do not have an official tryout, but rather have the players attend an evaluation session and will form teams as spaces are available. Players may choose a preferred team or coach to ease the transition from recreational play to competitive soccer. SSFC believes the early years of soccer are about player development and providing appropriate competition. Our goal is to introduce as many players as possible to a solid base of soccer skills and develop a passion for the game. Players of like interests and abilities are placed on the same team in later years to further develop their passion and skills of the game at appropriate levels of play. You are SSFC’s best advertisement. Tell others about your club and invite them to tryouts.
Soccer – The Way It Ought To Be In our featured article at the end of the newsletter, a G97 parent proudly describes an outstanding example of sportsmanship and good will between SSFC and a Yakima team during a recent friendly. Read it, be proud, and consider how your team can create similar soccer experiences.

South Sound FC Newsletter April 2009 GOOD OF THE GAME SSFC Members, Please read the email I received below which represents the true spirit of sportsmanship and values of SSFC. You may recall a similar event, when G95R hosted CB United of Moses Lake last year in the state cup after they drove over 400 miles to get here when the pass was closed. I hope to receive more of these type of emails in the future. Thanks for sharing Tony, and Kudos to Mandrell, Andy, and the G97R players and families. Hello Dan, I wanted to make you aware of a very awesome Saturday that involved South Sound FC.
Being the parent of #16 from the South Sound Club, I made the brave decision to walk the sideline of the visting (younger club) to offer encouragement and one extra supporter. I have to compliment Andy Hill and Mandrell Lucky. As I watched from the opposing sideline for the first time as a parent, I noticed the communication, the ball handling skills, position play and progress this team has made. I found myself saying, "This team plays well". At the end of the game, Coach Andy arranged for the two clubs to get together after the game and players from both families got together and enjoyed pizza and refreshments that Leslie Hill was so gracious in bringing to the park.
The U-12 South Sound Girls played a "Friendly" with the "Cheetahs" from Yakima, Washington. The trainer from the Yakima club had previously visited to watch a family member play at Star Fire and was impressed with the players from the South Sound U-12 97 Red team.
I wanted you to know of the good will, the sportsmanship and absolute beautiful representation of SOUTH SOUND FUTBOL CLUB SOCCER that was displayed on the pitch this weekend. For a game that was not on a schedule, not part of a season, not part of a tournament, it was perfect.
Taking advantage of the local connection, the Yakima Coach set up a friendly match that took place this weekend at the RAC.
Be proud of your club, your trainers and your players that are SSFC.
The Yakima club warmed up and experienced their first experience playing on "turf". One player commented, "What's wrong with the grass?"
The SSFC made a permanent impression on a group of new "Friends" from Yakima Washington. Way to go South Sound.!!!
Before the game, the players from both teams met at mid-field. The Yakima club presented the South Sound Club with a fresh box of apples from the Yakima Valley, the players greeted one another with sportsmanship, smiles and respect.
