fter a record setting 2011-12 campaign the Southern Illinois women’s tennis team is setting its goals even higher this year. The Salukis finished with a 17-6 (.739) record which was good enough for the highest winning percentage in school history and the best since the 1999-2000 seasons.

SIU adds one newcomer to the roster this fall, Abigail Plecki, a freshman from Homer Glen, Ill. Plecki played tennis at Lockport Township High School where she finished with 67 doubles wins primarily at the No. 1 spot before switching to singles her senior year where she finished with 20 wins at the No. 1 spot.

Audra Nothwehr enters her sixth season at Southern Illinois University with a record of 72-48 overall and 24-16 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Nothwehr led the Salukis to a 17-6 record last season on their way to having the best winning percentage in school history (.739). Prior to joining the Salukis, Nothwehr spent four seasons as head coach of men’s and women’s tennis at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. During the 2007 season, she was a finalist for NAIA National Women’s Coach of the Year. In addition, Nothwehr was named the Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

In three years at LWC, she took the women’s team from last in its conference to a semi-finalist finish in the NAIA National Tournament. Nothwehr also improved the men’s team from 16th in the nation to a quarter-finalist finish at the NAIA National Tournament. In addition to transitioning both teams, she coached six men’s and three women’s NAIA All-Americans. In four years of coaching men’s and women’s tennis in the NAIA, Nothwehr posted a career record of 100-30. A native of Clarinda, Iowa, Nothwehr did her undergraduate studies at Concordia University in Seward, Neb., where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in sport management. She played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for four years at Concordia, in addition to playing varsity volleyball

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS for the Bulldogs. Nothwehr was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Year in 2000. She was All Conference for four years in tennis as well as Academic All American in 2000 and 2001 in both volleyball and tennis.

Nothwehr became a Graduate Assistant Coach at Concordia University while getting her masters degree in education administration with a specialization in post-secondary athletics. At the same time, she fulfilled her graduate internship working for the volleyball office at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Located near the center of the Southern Illinois campus and next to Saluki Stadium, University Courts house both Men’s and Women’s Tennis practices and matches. There are 14 total courts on the campus, most which have been resurfaced with Deco-Turf, the official surface of the U.S. Open.

Sportsblast The Sportsblast is the premiere indoor sports facility in Carbondale. The climate controlled indoor sports complex holds three tennis courts on which the Southern Illinois tennis teams practice and play on.

Troutt-Wittmann Center The Troutt-Wittmann Center is the centerpiece of the Athletic Department and an area for student-athletes. Included are study tables complete with ample room for quiet studying and a number of computers for student-athletes to use. Also included is a weight room that all sports.
