Southern New Hampshire University Campus Recreation Co-Rec Softball 17-18 Players and Substitutes  Teams will have 9 defensive players on the field during the game. A team may begin and end a game with 7 players.  Teams will pitch to themselves. The pitcher is allowed to bat in the lineup. A player may come in to pitch while the designated pitchers takes his/her at bat, this will not count as a substitution.  Teams can bat 10 players but will keep 9 in the field to leave room for the offensive team providing a pitcher.  Teams must have 2 females at the field to begin a game. If only one female is present the team will receive an automatic out for every inning there is only one female. If there are no females present, the team will forfeit the game.  Team captains must submit the batting order to the score table 10 minutes prior to the start of the game.  Free substitution rule will be in effect. Starters and substitutes can replace one another as long as the starter and substitute remain in the same batting order. Substitutes must be listed on the team roster. Each person who plays the field must also bat at least once before they can be substituted.  Any team or individual who fails to be ready for a contest at the appointed time with their current SNHU ID Card and correct number of players will forfeit to the opponent! The Game  Rock/Paper/Scissors will determine the Home and Guest teams. Guest team will always bat first.  Games are 6 innings of regular play or 40 minutes long. A game will be called for the following reasons: o Lightning or excessive rain. Three complete innings will constitute a complete game. o At the end of 4 or more innings if one team is ahead by 10 or more runs.  During the regular season: In the event of a tie game at the end of regulation play, the game will be declared a tie. Normal extra-inning procedures will be used during the postseason tournament.

Basic Rules



Pitches will only be considered strikes. A batter may receive three pitches, unless they foul off those pitches. There will be no walks.  A batter will be not called out if he/she fouls a pitch after having 2 strikes.  No sliding, leading‐off, or stealing bases.  Advance only one base on an overthrown ball.  Participants are permitted to wear rubber‐cleated shoes. NO METAL CLEATS.  No bunting. The ball must at least make it to the pitching screen to count as a hit.  Once the ball is returned to the pitcher after a hit, no runner may advance.  If a batted ball hits the pitching a screen the batter is automatically out (or goes through the hole).  If the batter is hit by the pitch, there is no advancement of bases by the player.  Runners are prohibited from crashing into the fielder who has possession of the ball or a player who is about to catch a ball. The ball is dead and the runner is ruled out and is also ejected from the game.  If a base moves from its designated location the focus of the play remains at the designated location and the runner will be safe.  The arc of all pitches must stay between 6-12 feet in the air. Home Run Rule  Each team is allowed 10 homerun’s per game. Every homerun hit after a team has reached their maximum will result in an automatic OUT.  Any ball that leaves the ballpark must be retrieved by the hitter or a teammate. All other Southern New Hampshire University policies and procedures are in effect. This includes the use of tobacco and alcohol products.
