Spanish Teacher / World Language Department Head Position Description Founded in 1930, The Tatnall School is an independent, coeducational, collegepreparatory day school situated on a pastoral, 110-acre campus in Greenville, Delaware, near Wilmington. Tatnall includes four academic divisions with approximately 600 students from age 3 through grade 12. Its challenging academic curriculum and programs, combined with award-winning faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, create an environment of educational excellence. Because of its emphasis on creating a caring and nurturing community, Tatnall is known as “the family school” and its motto, “omnia in caritate – all things in love,” is at the core of everything the school does. Tatnall is seeking a dynamic Upper School Spanish teacher able to teach levels 2 through AP. The teacher would be a member of the Upper School World Language Department, working alongside French and Latin teachers. Interested candidates, with the requisite expertise and experience, will be considered for the role of Department Head. The Department Head will oversee curriculum and instruction for all of the world languages offered in the Upper School and will work on coordinating the world language curriculum for Preschool through grade 12. The World Language Department is actively involved in Tatnall’s mission to create global citizens by helping to equip our students with the tools necessary to communicate with, understand and appreciate other cultures. In addition to their work in the classroom, World Language Department teachers frequently help lead trips to countries where students can be immersed in the languages and cultures that are taught. Responsibilities include the following: Spanish Instructor Teach four to five sections of Spanish Serve as advisor for 5-10 students Participate fully in the life of the community Other duties as assigned Department Head Attend and participate actively in Department Heads meetings Manage professional growth program for department members
Oversee departmental budget Coordinate World Language Curriculum school-wide
Qualifications and Requirements: B.A., M.A. preferred (required for Department Head)
A minimum of three to five years of teaching experience that includes the AP level (greater experience will be expected for Department Head candidates) Experience working with diverse groups of people and appreciation for diversity in all its forms Excellent written and oral communication skills A student-centered approach to education Ability to work in a diverse and lively independent school setting and to work closely and collegially with students, faculty and staff, administrators and parents
