| Special panel | A NEW VISION FOR A NEW REALITY A sense of instability and insecurity has become an ordinary part of the new geopolitical reality. The constantly evolving international arena is becoming increasingly unpredictable and interdependent, while at the same time facing numerous challenges and opportunities. These need to be addressed properly to ensure the sustainable and peaceful development of humanity. Doing more, better and timely together is probably more important than ever, especially regarding conflict prevention. While Europe remains a haven of relative peace and stability, conflicts in its neighbourhood and threats such as terrorism, unregulated migration, cyber-attacks, hybrid threats, instability, and poor development still persist, seriously undermining our security and well-being. Debates about conflict and war are being replaced by those addressing instability and strengthening the resilience of states and societies. Instability, poor development, environmental changes and conflict situations cause grave human suffering and result in violations of basic human dignity, social stability, peace and international law. To avoid this, people need to be put first. Long-term global peace, stability and sustainable development can be achieved only through result-oriented and enduring dialogue, taking into account the basic values, norms and principles enshrined in the UN Charter. Everybody deserves a better future.
