SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION(SHSAT) May 18, 2017
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SHSAT?
Gain admission to one the following Specialized High Schools
SHSAT SCORING AND OFFERS • On the scheduled test date, students list the Specialized Testing High Schools in priority order on the admission ticket. These choices are final. • Students will be matched with the highest choice on their list where admissions criteria is met.
SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOLS • Students must register to take the Specialized High School Exam • Tickets will be distributed in school during the week of the exam • Student requiring accommodations will take the SHSAT on different date and will receive their tickets the week of the exam in school
• ***Please make sure your child takes the ticket to his or her test site.***
PACING AND SCORING OF EXAM • Testing Time is changed from 150 minutes to 180 minutes • Testing Accommodations will be granted the day of the exam for those students who have an IEP and/or 504 • Students should pace themselves as they must keep track of their own time • Scores will be based on the number of correct answers marked
CHANGES TO THE SHSAT
SELECTION PROTOCOL • Composite Score is the Sum of the ELA and Math Scale Scores • Composite Score with Student school choice + seat availability = determines admissions to school
WHEN TO SIGN UP?
•Ms. McNamara will visit classrooms in early Fall to sign students up for the exam. •Additionally, end of September guidance counselor will have a high school presentation in the evening.
PRACTICE EXAMS
•Students will receive a Specialized High school book in late June which have two practice exams in them.
